I found some standard pressure golddots in the store the other day 25 in a box $11.25 I was wondering what the penatration and expansion was on them . Any? Thanks:) How good are they for SD compared to the +P's Out of a G19
I've been shooting them out at the range since we came into a couple of cases of them. They do not produce much recoil and are fairly accurate. I'm not impressed by their ballistics but should work fairly well against two legged vermin. I would prefer 147SXT's for Bad Guy's or +P's in the 124 GD's. Also, that seems quite expensive.

Speer recommends the that the standard pressure 124s be used in guns with barrel lengths of 4 in. or more and the 124+p be used in guns with barrels under 4 in.

Thanks guys for the info . Id'e like to see some balistics on penetration and expansion if I could. Or a link to some. Thanks. I take it they work better then the 115gr sivertips? The silvertips do work flawlessly in my G19.

Go to the IWBA,or is it the IWBI, testing of the Gold Dot 124 and 147. That is where I read about the Speer recommendations for the 124 and 124=p.
I use the Gold Dot 124 normal pressure in my G17. The kick ass!

The standard pressure 124gr. GD, IIRC, penetrates a little more than the +P version and expands about the same. Info came from member Broken Arrow.

The Gold Dot is a proven round and probably used by more PD's throughout the country than any other round.

are you sure you didn't pick up Golden saber rounds? I know they come in boxes of 25, I have never seen gold dots in 25 round boxes, only 20's and 50's, (and the 250 round recall packs). Of course there's something new out every day, so I could be wrong.

Hello. They chronograph right at 1100 ft/sec from my Hi Powers and about 100 ft/sec faster in the +P version.

This one was fired into super-saturated newsprint and penetrated 7". The bullet measured 0.58 x 0.53 x 0.34" tall and weighed 123.3-grains. In gelatin or tissue, it should penetrate a bit more. When fired into water the results were very similar. Accuracy was satisfactory.
Best.
I use the +P versios in my FEG HP clone, good stuff and very accurate for me.:)
All I ever carry are standard pressure Speer GDs of 124 gr 9mm.
The advantages, IMO:
1. Lots of PDs use this, AFAIK, so you leverage off their track record. Why reinvent the wheel?
2. You might get slightly better ballistic results from +P, but you lose something at your end, so to speak.
3. Completely gets rid of the "practice with mild recoil; carry with stiff recoil" training dilemma.
