My son purchased a Yugo model 48 Mauser and we cannot get the saftey to move it is in the left positon and it has been over 25 years since I handled a Mauser. Also can anyone remind me how to take the bolt out. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

must be cocked in order to move safety.
Raise bolt handle, This will cock the rifle.
Lower bolt and then move safety to vert. position.
Safety must be in this position to remove bolt.

What 49+hudson said. Cock the rifle, put the safety on in its middle position (sticking straight up) and remove the bolt. The whole safety mechanism should be able to screw off now. Now you can clean it good.

I'm not actually sure if that will work with the Yugo 48, but, it works like that with my 1916 Mauser

Thanks everyone . I still ahd a rough time moving the saftey as it is very stiff nad I have arthritis but it is moving now.You got to love Glock Talk though for fast friendly help.
A good oil or grease might help, too.
If it was packed in cosmoline you might need to strip the bolt and degrease it. Probably need to do that anyway.
