I haven't posted here in an eternity.

Yesterday I sold my first handgun, a Ruger P-89, heavy rusted/reblued pistol. I bought it the day I turned 21yo about 6 years ago. It qualified me for my CCW and I carried the painfully heavy chunk of steel with me everywhere. It's accuracy and reliability always left me wanting more.

Now I want something that is more reliable, and that won't rust... in .45 caliber. The Glock 21 and 30 are my prime choices.

I'm really tired of having to carry around big monster of a pistol. But holding a Glock 30, it just feels so dang small. I only keep/want 1 pistol. I spend my $$ on rifles since I'm a far better shot with long guns.

Summary, the 21 feels better in the hand, the 30 feels better on the hip. The gun will spend most of it's time on my hip, but I'm tentative to have my ONLY pistol be so miniscule.

I've been using the search feature, and so far they both sound pretty reliable (compared to stuff I read about 19s & 23s), and recoil seems to be a non-issue.

Is the "average Joe" going to be significantly less accurate with the 30?

If you were going to have one .45 pistol for ALL your needs, would it be the 21 or 30?

The 30, although I'm biased. You will be just as accurate if not more so with the G30.

I didn't find the 30 too bad to shoot at all, and you are looking for something easier to carry. If I buy another Glock it will likely be a 30. (OK maybe "when" is more like it)

I carried a G30 daily for several years. Tried carrying one of my G21's a couple of times, but it's just toooo bulky. Now that I've acquired the lighter, smaller, easier-to-conceal, just-as-lethal and cheaper-to-shoot, G26, the G30 stays in the safe.

Between these two, for the purposes you stated, "No Contest" the G30.

First off there are NO reliability problems with either the 19 or 23. I've shot 1000s of rounds through them both and never had a malfunction of any kind. I've carried them both w/o ever looking back.

I have had a G30 and it was an extremely accurate, soft shooting .45. However, it did not feel right to me so I now have a 36. However, if I had to choose between a 21 and a 30 for carry, it would be a no brainer - The G30 wins every time. They are probably the second best .45 on the market. ;) - 'ole joe

Get the G30. Stick it on your hip & Don't look back. You won't regret it. I've shot .38s with more kick than the G30 and it is very accurate.

I have both.

My vote goes for the Glock 30.

I find the G21 more pleasant to shoot, but it IS sorta big. With the choices given, I'd opt for the G30. However, if I could expand those choices, the G19 comes to mind.

I have both and enjoy both very much. The 21 is very comfortable and very easy to shoot but I am more accurate with the G30. Go figure. If I had to carry one it would be the 30 hands down.

Well, now I'm really leaning towards the 30, thank-ya mucho.

I have both, and love shooting both of them. If I could only have one, it would be the G30. And after Sept. 14th you can get 13-rd G21 magazines that will work in your 30. (As mentioned by others, they will stick out some, so they're suited more for spares with the 10-rounders in the gun.)

One thing, too, about the 30: it's most likely more inherently accurate than the 21.
Due to the thickness of the slide, the shorter one of the 30 becomes more rigid and less able to "torque" even the slightest amount. Result? More uniform slide/barrel lockup.

FWIW, I carried a Glock 30 everyday until I switched to the 40 S&W. I put more than 20,00o rounds on it myself.

The Glock 30 is a lot easier to conceal than the Glockc 21.

Good luck!!

Thirrrrrrty is sooooo Girrrrrrthy

I'd take a 30

The 21 is just about the best open carry DUTY gun ever, but since I'll never be doing that, it's got to be a 30

I also vote for the G30. The only problem I have had with mine is taking it out of my hand. ( It seems to be very difficult for me )

If I HAD to choose only one, I think it would be the G21... it is the softest shooting .45 ACP I have ever fired... It feels great, and I am big enough to carry it.

I would hate to separate with my G30, as that is my primary carry gun, but I compete with the G21, and feel more comfortable with it.

It depends on your needs. The G21 will be more accurate and more controllable. The G30 is slightly more concealable.

If you're looking at concealed carry, the G30. For all other purposes, the G21.

I know the Glock 36 was not one of the options listed but I just love mine for packing around all day long. I have a Glock 21 aswell whitch i love but it rides with my M3 lite and is therfor even bigger and not a option for conceld carry. The 36 however is a dream come true and I love its thinner grip then even my model 23. But for conceld carry and I could only pick between a model 30 and a model 21 the model 30 would win no contest.

My first Glock was a 21 & it is fun to shoot, seems to handle the recoil a bit better, but have just added a Glock 30 in the last 6 month & I love it!

If I had to give one away, I think the 21 would be leavin'...

I use the 10 round mags on the 30 & like the way it feels. I recently used it to shoot our local IDPA stages & had one of my best rounds ever. Have to give the credit to the 30!

So...if you can't have both....

You will not be disappointed with the G30. I find it to be easier to shoot in many ways than the G21. It is just as & if not more accurate than the G21to me as well.

If this is going to be primarily a carry gun then the G30 is the way to go. Get a G21 hi-cap or two as back-up/re-loads.

I carry a G30 with a 13 round G21 reload magazine every day. I can’t imagine carrying the G21.

If I could have only one pistol it would be the G30… Hands down…

The G-30 is the BEST Glock made. It can do anything the G-21 can do, and if carrying is part of your needs, it will be much more suitable. Get the 30! If you are worried about size, make sure you use the 10 round mags, and consider a Pearce aftermarket floor plate to give you a little more grip purchase. Happy Big Dawgin' :)

I haven't shot a 21, but I absolutely love my 30. For me, it fits my hands very well and has never malfunctioned. I shoot my 30 better than my Baer TRS. You won't regret getting the G30. I would recommend switching to the smooth trigger though and an A-Grip. Very comfortable!

I've had both and prefer shooting the G21.

It likes SWCs with a SS aftermarket barrel:)

I just picked up a G21 today. It's a great, second generation (no finger grooves). I'm excited to take it out for a test run. I sold my old G21 over a year ago, and I missed it too much.

Both of them are more accurate than 90% of most shooters. Saying the G30 will never be as accurate as a G21 is setting yourself up to be proven wrong. Sounds like countertop commando language. ;g

In the first place, the G21's barrel length is 4.6", not 5". Second, barrel length is not an issue; sight radius is. Since a G21 has a longer sight radius, a very experienced shooter MIGHT be able to wring a little more accuracy out of it at longer ranges. At 25 yards or less, I suspect that most people won't see much difference.

You obviously have never owned a G-30!

I carry my G30 almost everywhere I go....
If you go that route, you wont be disappointed.
As far as accuracy is concerned the G30 is just as accurate as you are...
Practice drills for what your needs are and you'll be fine.
I have put multiple rounds in a single "ragged" hole form 7 yards on several occasions without any supports and I am not a "marksman" by any means. In other words, G30 is a great all purpose weapon.

I have fired several G21's,but do not own one.I do have a G30,and find it to be one of the most accurate 45's I have ever owned and this includes numerous 1911's in past years.
If you're capable of shooting at all,the G30 will give you all the accuracy you will ever need in a defense gun.
I'm not a large person, barely 5'9" and 160 lbs.,but I also find the G30 very light to carry and easily concealable with the right choice of holsters, which is a personal matter that everyone has to deal with in selecting what's best for their own needs.
If I could have just one, it would continue to be the G30.
I'm not concerned about magazine capacity. I know how to reload my sidearm.

Not one of the choices, but my regular carry is a Glock 36. It feels great in the hand.

I carry it, not in California when I am here, too many liberalists. It doesn't conceal the best, but I could care less if somebody notices a bulge coming from my pants.;) I have noticed many people carrying also while I've been out and about, mostly when they reach up like at a grocery store, they just casually pull their shirt back over their piece, as any person would do. Concealed carry doesn't mean you have to stick your fine weapon of choice up your asset. The 30 is neat, but I don't like how large it is compared to the 26/27.

Don't own the 21, though a few friends have that model. Only one of them uses it as his carry piece, and he's bigger than a train wreck. I carry my 30 daily, and have no problems with concealability, or accuracy. Also, looking forward to getting some full-capacity backup mags on the 14th.

My vote goes to the 30. I don't own a 21 but i've shot one before. Nice shooting gun but my 30 carries easier and just fits my hand better.

As much as i love my 1911's, if i could only have one gun in .45 acp it would be the 30.

I currently don't own a 21,but have had 1 G30 and 2 G 36's..but I have shot a G 20 a friend has several times. For open carry and range the fullsize works the best for accuracy and rapid recovery, but for me the G 36 was perfect fit in my hand, the G 30 felt,well....fat!(small hand syndrome strikes again)If I was looking for optimal concealment,I'd have to grab another G 36.Any will serve,'tho..
