dryfly,

It would be to your advantage to go to the beginning & read this entire thread.
Not only for the deep humor contained within, but to give you some insight as to the actual intelligence of those of us here. Even when joking, we contain enough knowledge to scare mere mortals. No brag, just fact.

And if you like sci-fi, by ALL means, read the books by member MinervaDoe. Chronos is excellent, and relevent !

I confess to having forced myself into ignorance in the past few years, after having been an avid reader of specifically, military science fiction. Is this what we are speaking of? I was a fan of not only the "Hammers Slammers" series but very into the "Dorsai" as well. I would love to find an excuse to jump back in.

If it's in the mail, then it must be the paperback version of Chronos. Chronologically, it's the second book in the series, but it was the first one written. It has less dialogue than the others. I hope you enjoy it.

Indeed it is. I told my wife about it and she immediately looked it up and ordered it. I somehow got the feeling that it might have been the actual start, or first written for some reason.

See how good you are with a Russian pistol.

All text is in Russian.
Save black powder and money!

When the pistol appears, click on the trigger, aim, and fire. It's really self-explanatory.
You have 3 shots in 30 seconds to hit the target and get your score.

It's addictive.

IMPORTANT 10-RING FACILITY ADMINISTRATIVE, PHILOSOPHICAL, AND POSSIBLY HERETICAL ANNOUNCEMENT

I may have dealt a setback to my continuing transition to full 10-Ring credentialed membership this last weekend, with a dalliance with a variation of the despised F-caliber. Permit me to explain.

As some may know, and possibly even CARE, I had obtained a 21 upper half to drop onto one of my stable of 20s, as part of my miserably pathetic attempt to deplete my stock of old slow 45acp ammo. Well, over the weekend, in a moment of weakness, I acquired a 40-Super conversion barrel, along with a useable stock of DoubleTap 135gr ammo, to drop into that 21 upper.

My heresy with even a vaguely respectable variant of a lesser caliber will, ot course, warrant convening some level of plenipotentiary tribunal to pass judgment on my conduct. Since I am demonstrably the culprit in this heinous action, the Dungeon will assume ALL costs of the logistics of the partying associated with said tribunal.

Get your food and libation requests in.

countrygun

I am no longer a weak-willed heretical subversive ratfink bastard who is underhandedly subverting the noble ideals of the true caliber faith. NOW I become a faithful adherent who is graciously allowing the 10-Ring faithful a modicum of variety in their inebriated 10-Ring existence (pardon my redundancy.) I would like to announce that a plan that I have been carefully crafting may come to fruition.

I have been looking for a semi-willing accomplice and may have found him.

As you know, if something is published on the internet by person with an "MD" after their name it can well become the next thing to gospel.

I think I have found such a person, who with proper enticement, such as perhaps a week at the Lagoon and suitable quantities of potable beverages, would be willing to sign a report that was "Done by a qualified Research Assistant":whistling:

to that end, I (err rather"The Assistant") have prepared most of a report, that reverses a common "cause and effect" phenomenon that we are all aware of. In this report I (err rather "The Assistant) has discovered a correlation between the unique harmonic vibrations and muzzle signature of the .40 S&W and the tendency of male shooters to develop such symptoms as erectile dysfunction, "moobs", fallen arches, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, piles, hives, shingles, shakes shudders, tremors, blurry vision, and an attraction to women with unshaven legs.

Now the end result of this would be a precipitous drop in the purchase and the firing of firearms in said caliber. This, in turn, would lead to a surplus of the component and particularly, immediately 10mm projectiles. It would be no difficult trick to therefore convince the ammo makers to stop wasting these on the dwindling number of .40 shooters and instead, turn them towards 10mm production.

Now I need to see if this would meet with the collective approval of those who make big decisions.

Confucius say, be very careful in your documentations, as they could backfire substantially! As the direction of the tide of supply could slip out to sea up altogether. It is because of the demands for this short & weak, that keeps the tidal gene pool refreshed with the projectiles to fit the mighty 10!

Settle down with a refreshment and re-think published report's "cause and effect" phenomenon. Swaying the ammo and bullet makers to produce less of other calibers may be beneficial to produce even more in the current caliber till surplus spills out to fill the needs of the super ballistic 10 again!:dunno:

Great Scott man, the financial windfalls from that study could be enormous. It would appear as though the findings of your study are correct, at least in my case, because work requires me to carry the .40 S&W and I suffer from nearly all those maladies ( never had a problem with the piles or being attracted to hairy legs ). If we can get that study public, think of all the police officers carrying the .40 that would have potential law suits with government agencies. We need to get the Dungeon Legal Division on this to see if a potential class action suit is a possibility so we can get in on this thing on the ground level.

Ah but you forget, the study REVERSES the known cause and effect and replaces it with a relationship that is beneficial to the more virile members of society shooting the 10mm. The study will show that the .40 causes those effects rather than, as we all know, those physical conditions, CAUSING shooters to seek out the .40 cal. As we know that completely and totally explains why so many Law Enforcement Administrators and bureaucrats are attracted to the .40S&W.

The lawsuits alone, as Bullman rightly pointed out, will place the blame squarely on the pencil-necked geeks and the chairborne commandos who snarfle everything up with pettifogging regulations and rules that hamstring our working LEOS. Of course those desk jockeys will pass the blame on, but when they get their big checks to offset their expenditures to Maidenform Playtex, Pfizer, and the E-mail ad companies, they will retire and get out of the way.

I see it as a win/win.

You may ask: Why would this be bad? Because then the special flair and panache of our organization would be diluted by that same common rabble that has converted to our caliber! Sorta like all the Californians bailing out of Cali, and then messing up the states they move to!

Yup. It bears consideration.
At present, a HUGE advantage of 10mm, is that it is very easy to differnetiate your brass from the other brass strewn about the range.

And then, there is that common rabble thing that you mention. But, as we know, the lowest commmon denominator crowd is easily swayed by trends and fashion, and would soon be off on some newly popularized craze.
So, not to worry.

I considered this very point carefully, but given a large portion of shooters have no clue as to why they shoot the slovenly caliber other than "because the Cops do", I think it is safe to say the FBI results with the noble round, will render it unsuitable in the eyes of the desk jockeys that make decisions in that realm. This being the case, most "civilians", as they are today, will remain in awe of the Magnificent Ten and deem it a tool to be used only by those possessing qualities above that of the commoners such as themselves. As it should be of course.

I do not see the 10mm turning into a substitute for the "F" cal because, if that were the case, the poor misshapen critter would never have seen the light of day.

I am quite sure that the industry will gin up a new toy, perhaps the "9mm Makarov Long"? to catch the attention of both civilians and Police Administrators who have a fascination for new and "shiny" things.

It may be possible for the 10-Ring to coin some bucks off copyrighting that new-toy caliber the befuddled rabble takes up after the infatuation with the f'caliber fades. I offer a suggestion: instead of 9mm Mak Long, call it 9mm Makarov Magnum. This would yield the snappy name "9mmmm": much better for merchandizing identity.

I hate to wet blanket a good idea, but we want LE sales to draw folks to it and LE is generally afraid of the word "Magnum". The .357 being the only exception. There were quite a few problems in the 60's and 70's with the .41 for that reason.

I think, if we want to imply something "Special and above the norm. Unlike anything seen before and not to be excelled" I might humbly suggest the "9+mm Countrygun"

... but then, the despised f'caliber can also make that claim!

Well I have been working on the basic development of the cartridge and have come up with some ideas.

Since we are talking about a bullet slightly larger that the current 9mm para, and we do not yet have the cases needed I have come up with a way around this.

First of all to get variety of bullet weights I figure I and take standard 9mm projectiles and put them on my anvil, base down, and smack them with n appropriate hammer then run them through a 9mm Mak sizing die.

To get brass I am looking at a modification of the 9X23 by sizing the mouth up, in a "reverse bottleneck" fashion. This will, of course, require the use of my own designed "Clamshell" receiver and chamber unit attached to a Makarov barrel.

I have a neighbor, "Bubba", who if provided a reasonable fee, a six-pack is usually enough, will pull the lanyard on any firearms experiment, if I hold his beer.

Using this method I am sure we can develop a reasonable load.

Unkle, the foremost priority of any research project is to blow the grant money on schedule. Mundane items like "results" fade to irrelevance

_The_Shadow
02-28-2013, 20:02
My disposition is the wide variety of calibers I actually use across the board. One should not be limited, especially in these times of limited supply vs. demands. However my little old G-29 currently sports barrels for 10,40,357Sig and 9x25Dillon, so the flexibility insures plinking and power loads to tackle any situation.

Heck if I could find barrels in .224BOZ or a 0.308 necking of the 10mm and obtain some dies, I'd be working to push the limits of those platforms as well! I do see some marketing strategy in those items, not to mention the ballistic potentials.

Therefore flexibility would therefore exceed such LOWER expectations to an unattainable levels.

Results?

Well, if you insist I could come up with some before I begin the project.

I am tentatively looking at something in the 9mm +P+ ranges for given weights but remember we re going to sell it on the fact that it is bigger in diameter than the 9mm para, so it should give the rabble a case of the "tingles".

s a wildcat I m thinking of leveraging off the "niche" popularity of the 6.5 bullet in rifles. Since it is touted as "Less recoil/more killing" bullet in a rifle, I think it has future in that role in a pistol.

Whoa there big fella.

You are trying to tell the educated and experienced assembly that a politician's word has anything to do with his actions, especially where there is money involved, or the spending of OTHER people's money?

Dear, dear, dear, we obviously have to ramp up the Dungeon's program of reality-based interpretation of political statements.

Dear Leader spent HUGE amounts of OPM before being reelected and now has "more flexibility". Somehow it is like expecting another former leader not to get aroused in a college sorority house. Just ain't going to happen.

No, I predict a boon to those who know how to word the proposals correctly, as during all times of "politically correct austerity" If it can be proven, before the study begins, that $1.00 can be saved, per unit, on some item the government buys millions of and it will save the Government $100 million over ten years, the "austerity budget" demands that one-billion dollars be spent now to study the feasibility.

It just requires being in the right place at the right time.

Drawing on his wartime experience with the 40mm and especially the quad-fifty AA guns, we figured it would be possible to take 4 large mag equipped Ruger 10/22s and mount them to a Barco-lounger on a lazy Susan type pivot. It would be very easy to rig up a holder to keep track of your beverage with this system.

Eng, that intern error just might have created a marketing opportunity for the Dungeon operation. I suggest moderating the aforementioned intern butt-kicking until the situation is fully evaluated (unless, of course, you simply ENJOY administering the kicking!)

Letting the slushie temperature drop MARGINALLY above freezing (the admin types understand your terminology) can create ... a SLURPEE! This might provide a pleasurable change of pace from the standard-issue slushie.experience. The Dungeon Marketing Research Division is working out the details.

Keep up the creative work ... Even if it IS accidental! Hey, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin because.some clown left a window open!

The situation is more dire that it appears. There is simply no fitting replacement for Mongo :crying:

We need to restructure the responsibilities of the job and perhaps divide them among several people because, IMO, it would be impossible to find a single individual who could provide the results that Mongo could.

We need the brawn of "Ahhhnold", the intellectual prowess of VP CrazyJoe, and the subtle nuanced application of both best displayed by Larry the Cable Guy. But we would still be missing the single minded determination.

I fear we may all be forced to.....uhm....do something distasteful and.......commit...acts of "labor" if we don't find some alternative.

If we could find suitable internet mall ninjas and convince them that the job was "tactical" in some way, we might find a large labor pool that could be exploited....errr...."utilized" as a stop-gap measure.
