I'm looking for a good shooting Garand to take out on the weekends. I'm not looking to get a Garand as an investment, so I really don't care where the parts came from as long as they work.

I found on built on a Springfield (I think) receiver and the rest of the parts were Beretta.

If the barrel isn't shot out I'm wondering if $500 is a fair price.

Provided that 1) the rifle is all USGI (or Italian Beretta or Breda, or Danish VAR), 2) and it does not have one of the cheap cast receivers, and 3) the barrel is in good condition, $500 would be a fair price.

A rifle from the CMP would be cheaper. The Greeks were going for less than $400. After you qualify they Fed EX the rifle directly to you. It is a sweet deal and a part of history.

You know...I've wondered about CMP. I've been to their website but I still don't know exactly how it all works.

Whats not to understand, you meet their requirements, pick which rifle you want (I went with a SA/SG a couple of years ago), and it shows up at your door.
