View Full Version : WOLF ammo
Ammoman.com is offering wolf ammo for 109/1000 rounds... is this a good deal?
The new wolf ammo is supposed to no longer use the green goo on it... anyone have any experiences with the new ammo?

Not a very good deal. Thats the same price as the Winchester white box from Walmart, and its much better ammo to boot (especially the new stuff with the improved accuracy bullet)

Chev, please tell us more about the "improved accuracy bullet" that Winchester currently employs in the 9mm Value Packs.
Oh, and I agree, not a very good deal on the Wolf ammo.
Just picked me up another case of 9mm CCI Blazer for $105 over at www.natchezss.com

The improved accuract bullet is copper jacketed, and they seem more accurate and cleaner shooting.
Wolf belongs in Com-bloc guns.
Stick to WallyWorld's Value Packs for your Glock.
Why chew up your extractor with steel cases when you can shoot higher quality American Made stuff for the same price?

So it's like the bullets found in the WIN USA brand Q4172 9mm 50rd box?

I believe so, but, the powder they use now seems to leave much less residue, which is more important to me than the new bullet.

What did they charge you to ship it???????
Ammoman does not charge for shipping on any ammo. He has other brands than wolf.

I would not recommend using wolf or olympic ammo. They eventually lead to the failure of my extractor spring. Although in this case I was firing .223 out of my AR15, it would be safe to assume that caliber and cartridge type won't make a difference if they're all made with the same low quality.
I'll play the mockingbird and repeat what the others said... Winchester and Walmart make great battle buddies.

I shot 100 rounds of wolf .223 in my Armalite M15A2. About 75% of them were underpowered and did not cycle. they hit the target, but for a while my M15 was California legal. (Winchester Q3131A Worked fine)

Well, that's the cost with the shipping, however it was 1 case outta 4. 3 of my shooting buddies pitched in, so basically, the more you buy, the weight to subtotal price ratio goes down.
Bite the bullet and spend a teeny lil' more for quality ammo. Sheesh.

I get mine from these guys. $89.95 for a case of 1000 rounds. (Look in the yellow circles.)
9MM GREEK 124 GRAIN
FULL METAL JACKET
BRAND NEW AND RELOADABLE
BOXER PRIMED - NON CORROSIVE
VERY NICE SURE FIRE AMMO.
129.00 / 1000
Better than Wolf?
Better than Wolf?
Yes, but not by much.
I ordered a case of the stuff a while back, and was not happy with the purchase. Lots of light-loaded rounds, and several failures-to-fire (even after several striker strikes). Accuracy was average to mediocre and fouling was on par with S&B (average to a little on the dirty side).
but for a while my M15 was California legal.
Neutered to the point of being virtually useless? ;e

I came across a box of this in my buddy's gear and we promptly tried it in my G34. Accuracy seemed to be slightly improved, and the gun was not fouled as heavily as with the old ammo. Looks to me like Winchester did improve their product.
Now if we can only get 147 grain FMJ's in a Value Pack....
Well...
Back when I posted this thread I had a case of the wolf 9mm on order...It came in and I have since shot about half of it.
It seems to shoot okay... I have not had any issues with it thus far, and it seems to be loaded hotter than WWB.
But since the price difference between wolf and wwb is less than 20$ per 1000 I will probably just stick with the WWB.
I have talked to a few of the fellers who shoot wolf in .45 and their biggest problem with it was the fact it was coated with a green laquer that would get gummy, but since then wolf has changed their casings to be coated with polymere instead of the green stuff.
I dont see where steel vs brass vs aluminum casings would make a difference on your extractors. But to each their own anyway.
Thanks for all the great info guys!
:)
steel vs brass vs aluminum
It's about metal hardness and metal to metal contact.
Brass and aluminum are soft metals. Steel is a harder metal. Hard metal to hard metal equals more wear than soft metal to hard metal.

Thats why they put the polymere coating on it.
I was told the polymer coating was to prevent the steel case from rusting during storage. As was the laquer coating's job.
The laquer is just messy when the gun is fired.
I seriously doubt the polymer coating is thick enough to prevent steel/steel wear during firing.
I could be wrong, but I'm not going to buy any of Wolf's ammo to find out, either.
I'll stick to White Box, which I already know and love.
