Other than cleaning then...would these mags be ok for back-up?

And who makes, or made, the majority of the 1911 mags for the military?

Umm..so what is it? "No" or "yes"? You said "no" on the other thread, and "yes" on this one.

I'm confused, and am paralyzed with decison until you iron this out for me!

yes

any mag either works..............or not and any proven relaible mag is good enough for self defence. I have several surplus 1911 mags that work just as well as the higher priced 'wonder mags' from Kimber and Mc.

I bought some GI mags in wrappers that fell apart.
Read about them here:

So the military just uses them for target practice?

.......................only until they fall apart I guess

I use only GI mags in my 1911, but then I have never had any fail on me.

Many "new" GI mags sold nowadays are elcheepo chinese POS. Worthless. If you buy true used GI mags [I have about 25} they work pretty well. I just got some from the Korean war, along with the mag holder and a holster. 30 bucks. True GI mags don't look real pretty sometimes but they were well made and more importantly they are specced correctly. Do not buy the NIP [new in paper]'GI" mags they are nothing of the sort.Crap junk POS.

I bought one to try for $5. Works fine. Plan on buying more at next gun show.
