View Full Version : My herd....
...having brunch out in the corral.
Way farking cool! Are these domestic? What are you feeding them? Do they come when called? :) What are their names?
Those are eastern box turtles that live in my outdoor enclosure-
Three are rescues-Nina, Steve and Marilyn.
And four were hatched and raised here by me-Duke, G. Gordon, Turtle With No Name and Other Turtle With No Name.
They like canteloupe, bananas, watermelon, any soft fruit or vegetable, mushrooms, earthworms, mealworms, tunafish, some commercial turtle foods etc.
Like all turtles they are deaf but they are very tame and follow me like puppies hoping I will feed them.
The tiny hatchlings have to be brought inside to be cared for until it is safe for them to be around the much larger adults-
The adults are pretty rugged but the hatchlings require considerable care to keep them healthy.:)

I love pics like that!!!!
Reminds me of the time we lived in western Australia for 2 years and late at night we would go to the beaches to try and catch a look at mother sea turtles as they came up to lay their eggs.......
what cool pics!!!!!! keep posting!!!!!!
Thanks ATL Peach Girl!
My shelled buddies usually don't inspire much enthusiasm.:)
Here's some more-

you bring diversity to the pet forum!!!! I have always liked turtles and have always thought they were cute!!
So do you go out and collect turtle eggs every so often and then incubate them??? Those babies are adorable!!!
That's an ideal enclosure you have them in outside too!!!;c
ATL Peach Girl-
Since I have had males and females together I have had no shortage of turtle eggs. :)
And no shortage of hatchlings that needed to be brought inside and cared for, and then found homes for.
It got pretty much out of hand as a matter of fact.
Just too many hatchlings.
Soooo.....I recently found a new home for the female that was laying about ten eggs a year.
My other female is so old she no longer breeds.
Marilyn, the egg machine, now lives in a friends turtle garden which makes my little enclosure look like a jail cell in comparison.
Marilyn is laying eggs here now-
I love turtles!
How did I miss this thread? :(
Occasionally, I will catch a turtle on our farm. As I am afraid that (s)he will be hurt accidentally, I will relocate the fella to a creekbank. I figure a turtle should love it there :)
I love turtles so much that I'm thinking about cosmetic surgery to make me into one. Could I come and stay at your place if I do? I saw "turtle feeding time" at the Detroit Zoo once, and it looked just like that! It's great to see someone care for them properly.
