How often should you change the recoil spring in a G19? Has anyone tried the rigid recoil guide rod or a steel one? If so do they make a difference?

Greg, I got a Harrts recoil rod/spring when my G19 was coming up on 2-3,000 rounds. It's now had 11,000 expended and everything's still going strong. While I'm sure it wasn't necessary the tungsten rod, filled with Mercury and little balls, seems to make a difference in second/subsequent shot follow-up.

With a clean and properly lubricated gun if it will not go into battery pointing straight up with the trigger held in and the slide allowed to go forward VERY slowly then it's time for a new spring.
