I'd like to find a WWII era Germain Mauser, and a coworker is also looking for one. Saw an ad in Shotgun News for Mitchell's Mausers, looks like they have good stuff. A local gun shop has one of their "collector grade" Mausers for $299. It looks fabulous. I believe the gun was made in Yugoslavia on German with german tooling, after the germans were routed out circa 1943.

Here is a link to their site: http://www.mitchellsales.com/

Just wondering if anybody has heard about Mitchells, and what type of value a rifle like this would represent. Any info/opinions would be appreciated, thanks. :)

Just bought a Mitchell collector grade M48A at a gun show recently. It was a private sale at $275. I figured that I may have paid about $25 to $50 too much for it, but it is in excellent condition -- about the best I have ever run into. A couple of other guys were also interested in it, so I jumped on it. I have "lost" too many nice pieces by waiting too long. BTW, Mitchell was advertising these 15 months ago for $395, not $295 -- I found the ad in an old Shotgun News, so I don't think you can go too far wrong if you decide to buy it. Now if I had only held on to my unissued Enfield that I bought 10 years ago for $150 and is now selling for $400......

Looking at the description again and views from this post I don't think this is what i'm looking for.

The Mitchell guns do appear to be fine guns in their own right though, I was amazed at the condition of the one I saw.

I bought the Premium grade with all the extras. Rifle has 100% of the blue finish and perfect light finished wood. It's the best looking Mauser I ever saw. First shot off a sand bag at 50 yards was right in the 10 ring. Best $299.00 I ever paid for a surplus rifle. :)

I have seen some Mitchell Mausers and they are indeed fine specimens. Just remember that an M-48 is an intermediate action Mauser, not exactly the same (not as long)as a K-98. This should be of no consequence if you are collecting (except that K-98's are getting rare). It does, however, become an issue for folks who are building custom rifles.
