What all does it take to get your Curio and Relic license? I know that once you buy something with your C&R license you have to wait at least 6 months to sell it. But what regulations and requirements are there?
;g
Go here:
http://www.atf.gov/forms/pdfs/print2.htm
You'll need to hit the "Click here for form" link to get the application, (ATF Form 5300.16). You'll also need to click the larger link to get ATF form 5330.20 for a declaration of citizenship. Print out two copies of each, fill them all out, mail one set (and a check for $30) to the ATF at the address listed on the instruction sheet and the other set to the chief law enforcement officer in your area. That may be the Chief of Police if you're in a city, or the Sheriff if you're outside the city limits. You should probably include a letter in the CLEO envelope stating something like "Enclosed, please find a copy of my application for a Class 03 Collector of Curios and Relics firearms license. This copy is for your records and information only and requires no action on your part. You can contact me here if you have any questions... blah, blah, blah."
Sit back, have a ;c and wait at least a month. Maybe more.
There is no requlation (that I've seen) that says you must keep the weapon for 6 months before disposition. Of course, the "time" discussion opens a can of worms every time.

Lowtrac--thanks for the info. I have been wanting to get a C&R for several years now and just never got around to it. BTW, I went to the gvt website above and it doesn't seem to work very well (figures), but at least I know what I need now. Also, did you mean ATF Form 5310.16, not 5300.16, in addition to the 5330.20? I also screwed up the first time and printed the form on regular size paper instead of legal size. Hopefully I will get it all right before I send it in. Thanks again.
You're right. It is 5310.16. Apparently they just recently updated it because the one I filled out a few months ago had the address to send the application to in Texas. It turns out that the Texas office was closed some time in the past and they never updated the form. Mail was getting forwarded though, so there was a couple of extra days transit time involved as my letter went from Georgia to Texas then Georgia again. I live about 40 miles south of their office in Atlanta, so I guess I could have just dropped it off. :)

I have a regular FFL :) , is there something regulating what you can do to the weapons you purchase under your C&R? My father has one and he's bought a few things through me so he could "alter them" but I never thought to ask him what the heck he ment.
I bought mine solely so I could get C&R purchases shipped straight to my house. That's the best part about it. That and being able to order from distributors.
Never heard about the "six months before selling" thing. From what I've read, you can sell anything at any time (pending state/federal regulations, of course) to "further the collection."
The people at the C&R forum can no doubt tell ya: http://pub176.ezboard.com/bcurioandrelicfirearmsforum

I'm not sure of the answer, but I've read somewhere that the firearm should remain in the original configuration to retain C&R eligability. If your father wants a sporter project though, he should be able to just purchase the C&R, then enter a disposition entry in his bound book with a "sporterized - no longer C&R" note. For a definitive answer, contact your closest ATF field office and they should be able to forward your question to the correct person for response. They're usually quick to respond.

He seems to know the answer, I was just wondering why he did it and was too lazy to find time during the day to call him up and ask him. He's pretty well set though, he's got his C&R and his son has an FFL, whatever he needs he can get. His collection is getting as large as mine (I have cooler toys though);)
