I have a Armalite AR-50. www.AR-50.com is my website. It's basic, but will get better when I have time.

I call it the 'Gentle Giant'. It is very fun to shoot and is my favorite rifle. I wish that I'd bought it years before. :)

CVA .50, this baby has inline ignition, magnum powder capability, topped off with a bushnell trophy red dot. Not the BMG, but I'm jealous of you guys and need to play too;f I was in Quantico, VA a few years ago where they showed us the Barrets and some steel plates that had been shot with the SLAP rounds (HOLY SH!!!!TTE). The only 50BMG I've ever shot was the Mod duece.

I REALLY want an AR50, does that count? I will get one within the next 6-8 months.
If anyone is selling an AR50 let me know I might buy sooner if the price is right..
Thanks

Dad and I have an Iver Johnson AMAC.

A neighbor and I went down to Tampa today for a ballon shoot (actually clay pigeons attatched to cardboard) at 565yrds and he won it w/ his Serbu BFG w/ 4 consecutive hits. My partner stole my glory. I was leading w/ 3 consecutive birds hit from my 308 in the first round up until the 4th when he got an excellent run on them..

My head is still recovering from his muzzle blast since I was on the bench to his left.:)

blueiron or anyone that has experience,

How does the LAR Grizzly compare to some of the other popular ones out there (i.e. Serbu, State Arms, Armalite) in accuracy and recoil attenuation? I like the design of the LAR, but it seems like everyone bags on them, saying they aren't accurate and they recoil far more than the other popular ones. Is this true?

Thanks!

My L.A.R. Grizzly is extremely accurate. My only complaint with the gun is that the chamber is so tight, it is at minimum specifications, and some ammo will not chamber. I get my ammo from TCCI and it works without fail. IMI ammo is good, but the PMC and surplus ammo has dimension problems in my gun.

The recoil is about the same as a 12 gauge shotgun with 3 inch duck/goose loads. The Armalite was about the same for me and the Barrett M99 kicked more. All are nice guns though.

I believe that the complaints about the Grizzly come from knock off guns that look like the Grizzly, but aren't made by L.A.R. Of course, every gunmaker can and will make a lemon. I just haven't seen it with mine or other L.A.R. owners.

The Grizzly has won at least one National and many regional long range championships. Check with www.fcsa.org and they have reviews on any commercial .50 caliber made.

Blueiron, when I read your post about how tight your chamber is, I was wondering if it is a match grade chamber. I then went over to the LAR site and noticed that they do offer a match and commercial chamber. If you do have the match chamber, I would be careful what you feed it, you run the risk of blowing up your gun and seriious injury to yourself and others.

When I bought my fifty, the chamber dimension option didn't exist. Just one rifle and just one caliber.

The PMC ammo will chamber, but it is a bit snug. Surplus ammo has enough bullet concentric deviation that you can measure it with your eyeball. This includes U.S. mil. surplus ammunition. When I was in the Marine Corps, we used to roll delinked rounds on a flat surface so that we could find rounds suitable for qualification. A simple majority of U.S. ammo had significant runout.

I have a chamber cast of the rifle and the dimensions of my chamber were provided to my ammo supplier. They were understanding and addressed my needs. I have faith in my ammo supplier and my brass is returned to me as reloaded ammo. The cases are never used beyond three loading cycles, then destroyed. That includes the initial new loading.

Thanks for the warning though.
