How many grams of protein is it ok to take at one time?

I drink protein shakes, and each scoop of powder has 17 grams of protein. I've been using 2 scoops for each shake. Is 34 grams at one time a waste, or unhealthy?

I only drink about 3 to 4 shakes a day.

You'll find a lot of info out there, most of which is confusing. I have 60 gram shake post w/o and 40 gram shakes throughout the day. I think the general rule is 1-1.5 grams of protien per pound of lean muscle mass you have. Personally I take 1 to 1...

thats actually a real good way to spread your protein shakes out in a day...dont take a shake with more than 50 grams at a time..would be waste...i think with you splitting that 35 grams into 4 shakes is a great way to take it in...but dont rely on just protein shakes for growth...i am a firm believer that food is the key factor in growth...protein shakes should are just there to help

what do you weigh? it is all in the weight. I weight heavy in the offseason right now at 218. I can only handle about 40 - 45 grams of protein per sitting.

one of my lifitng partners however, is 270 off season, and he is taking in about 60 - 80 grams per sitting.

So, what do you weigh? the old school rule of thumb was that your body cannot handle more than 20 grams per hour, but this has been proven incorrect. It reflects more on your metabolism and your weight.

My weight fluctuates between around 180 to 210. I'm approximately 180 now, at 6'2" tall.

So generally speaking, all you need is about 200 per day. Since you are not a power lifter, or soley surviving on protein, 200 - 250 a day should be enough.

Per sitting, I would recommend about 35 grams. You should be eating 6 times per day, which would give you 210.

What I do is this. I go to dpsnutrition.com and buy 3 buckets of protein.

1. ISS Reaserch Whey Matirx - vanilla - 76 servings - $24
2. Syntrax Nectar (apple) - 36 servings - $24
3. Syntrax Nectar (lemonaid) - 36 servings - $24

The Syntrax Nectar is the absolute best tasting protein out there. I could drink it all day long. I mix that with the ISS becuase it helps to keep the cost down. It keeps the cost to about $1 a serving, and each serving has 45 grams of protein. You might want to do half of the ISS or Nectar, since you probably will pee some of that out. Let me know if you need anything else.

Saint is right, any more than 35g is going to be a waste. As far as Saint's buddy, I dont think anyone out there could make use of more than 60g at once.
