Some people like it, some don't, I know. For those that do like it, I was wondering what you may know or have heard about DuraCoat? If I remember correctly, SturmRuger has a Steyr with a chrome/nickel slide, right? Do you like it? May I ask who did it?
Anyone that can give me feedback, positive or negative, about their product, or about refinishing in general, would greatly help me out.
Thanks,
Lobez

You tried talking to Custom Glock Racing? He's good peeps. Both slides are tenifered before finished (I *think*) so his experience should translate. Either way, he'll give you the straight skinny--small business, bad word of mouth could kill him quick.

Ya it was done at Mac's at the address the MrPathy listed. I have been very pleased with the finish. My S40 had a matte finish with a slight green tint to it. It bugged the hell out of me because my M40 and M9 both have a very nice satin black finish. Since I use my S40 as a carry gun the matte finish was a real issue. It even made my S40 more difficult to draw out of a Bianchi Minimalist holster. The new finish that Mac applies is much slicker and looks really sharp. I have been very pleased with his work. If I had it to do over I don't think I would have him finish the barrel.
Here is the link to the pics I took of the new finish.

Thanks for the posts and the links guys. I think I'm going to go with someone other than Duracoat. Aside from what they've told me over the phone (very pleasant bunch), I haven't found anyone that can recommend them. I followed several links they had on their site, and most of them were rifles and shotguns done in their paints. I guess that many of thier applications are better displayed on long guns.
I've narrowed my decision down to 2 contenders. Mac's and Tripp Research. Now I must debate whether I wish to go with a matte finish or with the hard chrome look. Some of the guys I shoot with recommend the chroming, if done correctly, as they believe it resists corrosion better. Since I live on the coast here in S. Florida where heat, humidity, and the ocean can all play factors in this, I'm going to make this idea an option.
Once again, all opinions are most welcome.

Tenifer man, tenifer. Corrosion shouldn't be a problem. Tenifered Glocks have literally be thrown in the ocean for six months with no corrosion. I can't see why tenifered Steyrs would be different. If you clean your tenifered pistol *ever* it should outlast you.
If you like the hard chrome look, go for it, it is corrosion resistant and durable, which is why mil M-16 bores are hard chromed, but its sort of like giving a bird a parachute. You shouldn't have corrosion problems.
I've read a lot about Steyrs when I was purchasing the one I had--never saw a single post about corrosion. And, for some reason, there are bunches of people out there who loath these pistols, if someone had a problem, you'd read about it.

I do think the hard chrome is pretty sharp looking, so that will probably be the direction I go in. As I said before, most of the guys I know recommend it. Most of them also don't shoot Glocks and half of them I wouldn't believe could spell Steyr, but they're a great bunch none-the-less. I guess when you own a lower quality gun, things like corrosion are bigger issues. I shoot with a guy that had his Kimber done in Cobra Chrome over at Tripp and just got it back a few days back, and so now the itch is becoming a rash. Not to mention I'm curious as all hell to see what a M40 would look like in chrome ;f

Most of the guns my buddies have are a mix of the bling chrome on top of the slide with that brushed steel/aluminum look on the sides. It's pretty sharp. The bling looks really nice up close and not as gawdy as I thought it might, not like that really loud chrome look you see on something spray-painted with krylon. If someone didn't know better, they would more than likely mistake it for stainless steel.
As for the flash, I could see the headlines now: MAN FINDS INTRUDED IN HOME, BLINDED BY BLING! NEWS AT 11.

I'm waiting til I get my mags from SR, then I'll send them all out to get refinished together. I never was a big fan of blueing, not that it doesn't look good (it's nice on some things, like someone else's gun) but not for me.
