Hey Gang,
I'm a die hard 1911 fan, and I've been messing around with Glocks lately. I put a set of Heinie sights my Glock 17 today, and was wondering what kind of point of impact to expect, what kind of hold people are using with these, etc...I'm used to a 6 o'clock hold, and hope these are close!

I'm also interested. Saw an older set on a G34 at the gun store tonight. Nice sight picture. I'm pretty anal about sight pictures and would consider the Heinies for my new G17 if they give a perfect classic sight POI.

Took the 17 out to the range this evening...now I know what all the hype is about! These sights are great...just like shooting my two Kimber 1911's. Point of aim and impact were right on for me...shot 8" steel plates at 25 yards without hardly trying. May put a set of these on my 19 now!

Where to hold will vary a little depending on gun, load, shooter etc.

Matt and others--
I'm aware that Heinie makes several heights of front sights, including the .216 and .250. The .216 is "stock" I believe and there may be other heights--not sure.
One gentleman that I PM'd has mutiple Heinified Glocks and went with the taller .250 front sight.
If my G17 would shoot high with the .216 there would be nothing that I could do aside from going with a machined down a .250 replacement. I've done that before with Novaks but want an even cleaner sight picture, hence the Heinies.
For others who have experience with Heinies on a G17--which offered you a better POI--the standard .216 height or the taller one?
Thanks in advance.

The gent PM'd me back and stated that from a rest, his G17 shot 4" high at 15yds with the .216 sight, and only 1.5" high with the .250 sight.
I'll see if I can find a Black-T'd set with the tall front sight from Heinie.

Im my experience Heinies with the standard front not hitting where they are supossed to is a rarity.

Other than a sight mismatch I can't see someone shooting that high at 15yds as you mention - whew! My standard CGR Heinies on a G17 were, at first, if anything, a bit low I thought but that turned out to be my problem, considering the following from Richard Heinie:
"We make our sights for center hold or dead on hold."
In my experience they hit where you put the top of the front sight on (not under), maybe a tad low at very close range. I certainly wouldn't ever see a need for a .250. (and, yeah, the Heinie certainly has one of the best sight pictures, CGR's version being my pref) ^c
I shot a GSSF match in Richmond, CA Sunday and I found my Heinie sights to shoot 4 inches low at 15 yds and 8-10" low at 25 on my G17. I have a set on my 34 and 35 and they are perfect. I switched the sights from my 17 to my 21 and see if I get the same results. I had two other friends shoot the gun and they had the same results so I know it is not me. I have a new set coming to put on my 17 and see if that clears it up. BTW the set that was on my 17 is the .216 front blade and an older model. The rear sight is shaped a bit different.
I called Heinie and the nice young lady said sorry can't do anything for you. I had the lowest front sight they had. I guess if I have the same results on my G21 I will take a file to the front sight until I get the POI dead on at 15.
I got a new set of Heinie's, slant pro's, and put them on my G17 and put the older sights on my G21. Both are dead on at 20 yards. I am a happy guy again.

Thanks for the experiences.
My Black-T'd set arrived yesterday with the standard .216 front. Will give them a try next week.

I've had a set on my 29 for about three years now and I occasionally toy with the idea of filing just a tad off the front sight. The hit well with slow fire but I tend to pull down a bit when I'm shooting fast so I may try for an in between, compromise height.

The sights installed without a problem on my G17--very nice sights.
I put 400 rounds down range yesterday up to 25yds. I was consistently shooting 4-5 inches high at 25yds., and 2" high at my ususal practice distance--10yds..
I'm going to order the .250" front sight, preferrably with Black-T, and see how those perform on my Glock. Should be just about perfect. Nothing is sexier than a tall front sight. Hopefully it will arrive in less than two weeks....

Given that my G17 is shooting 4.5" high at 25yds, according to my calculations with the G17's sight radius, going from a .216 to a .250 front sight will lower impact by 5.5" to a 1" low POI at 25yds.
Should be much better.

If so, what kind was it?
Many thanks, and good shooting!

No didn't use a pusher--I've seen pushers mar rear sights before.
Just hold the slide flat against your work bench, place a small hardwood board on the side of the sight and tap it into place with a hammer.
This allows a nice smooth install with no chance of damaging the sight.
-------------------
Update on the .250" front sight with my G17--perfect at 10 yds (less than 1" low), 1-2" low at 25yds. The replacement front sight wasn't Black-T'd but you can't tell any difference in the finish.
Nice sight picture against light backgrounds, but poor against a black bullseye. This may be the best fixed sight for punching holes in cardboard silhouettes in good light.
I tried some XS sights and had just as nice groups out to 25yds, but better sight visibility against a variety of backgrounds and in varying light conditions. Plus they were faster for me and were perfectly on POI from 10 to 25yds out--right out of the box.
