View Full Version : tips on red dot
any tips on using red dot, how to acquire the dot to the center position quickly? for now I have to look around, tilt the gun around to see if the red dot passes across.
what do you do to get it center, look really close to it? i have about 2ft distance from the red dot to the eyes.

You need to practice draws enough so that you build a pycho-motor program for the motion. ALso find a visual reference on the gun to use while drawing so that it is aligned byt he time you are looking through the optics.

Practice practice practice. Also, longer, smaller diameter tubes allow faster acquisition of the dot from my experience.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The only red dot sighting system I have is the Meprolight M21 (similar to Trijicon Reflex II) mounted on my AK. I pop the AK on my shoulder and there sits the red dot. Put the red dot on target and voila!
it's mounted for a ruger 22/45. i guess i'll just stay close to it to see the dot then go from there.

You don't need to center the dot on the lense to be able to hit your targets. Ideally, on a parallax-free dot sight, you could have the dot anywhere on the lense and where it is, that's where you'll also hit.
But most red dots aren't ideal and will have a certain amount of parallax error. So test it out at different distances, shooting with the dot off-center, so you'll know how much compensation you need. ;)
HTH. Good luck.
Oh, btw, if you're having problems keeping the dot in the lense, the only cure is...practice. :)
