Has anyone used the Big Dot Tritium Nightsights before on their Glock. I have a Glock 27 just sitting in the safe and I wanted to try these sights since it's primarly a back-up and carry gun. I have Meprolight Nightsights on all my other Glocks, I just wanted to try something new and these lookes interesting. Comments, good or bad appreciated.

Fast up close, but so is a bald slide. At distance they generally lack precision due to a lack of a horizontal reference. Some precision is possible with them but there is a huge speed sacrafice.

They would be used mostly at about 10 yards and closer (Closer than 7 yards I don't use the sights, just point shooting), but I'd have to be able to qualify with them from the 15 yard line (2-4 shots, then move forward and continue qualifying) Is 15 yards do-able with these sights if the shooter is a good shot? I just would like to try something new, but don't want to waist my time and money if it's doomed before I begin.

15 yards is completely do-able with the "regular dot" (which is still pretty big . . . ) XS tritium sights.

Do you have experience with the "Big" big dot front sight? Just curious as that was the specific one I was looking at. Thanks for the post though, if I choose the "Standard" sight atleast now I know it will work, thanks again.

The "big" big dot sight is noticeably bigger than the standard XS express dot sight. I've fired one on a friend's gun (at 10 yards), and it was a little weird - would take some getting used to. The standard XS tritium dot took some getting used to, for that matter, but it was worth it.

Since I've never fired the "big" big dot beyond 10 yards (and then only a magazine's worth), I don't want to make any claims about its 15-yd abilities. But, my opinion is that it would work just fine. I think head shots might take a bit more time at 25 yards, but I think it would be fine for qualification at 15 yards.

But that's just my opinion, based on my extremely limited shooting at 10 yards.

I've tried both the big and standard dot sights. Have had them on my 17 and 34 for about a year.

Not bad, but I'm switching to Heinie's after trying them on a friend's gun.

Heinie's offer more precision.

Thanks all, I think I'll try to get a hold of some Big Dot sights in the near future. I appreciate you taking the time to fill me in.

I put a set of Big Dots on my Glock 30 once. I could not make shots on a Q target at 15 and 25 yards without having to line everything up perfectly. The darn dot just covered way too much of the sillouhette. The tritium of the front sight I received died after just over 60 rounds so I sent it back for a refund.

I'm not convinced that it belongs on a handgun. But I did order a set for my shotgun though. FWIW.

I carry a G35 & G22 on a daily basis. I use to have the Big Dot on each but change them both to the Standard. The Big Dot just covers too much target past 15 yards. I shoot around 1100 rounds a month. At 25yrds with the Standard Dot you can put the bullet where you want it to go. Fast shooting 15yrds and closer it is great for my old eyes to pick up.
