Cool, my wife's sister and her husband live in Largo. We visited them so much that we decided to move. Even they are moving to NPR. We'll be as close as 4 blocks. My wife is very happy to be moving so close to her sister.

FYI, there IS a Florida forum: http://floridashootersnetwork.com/ that I found out about recently.

Nice having so many places to chat :)

1) Do they have a range? (We can do a range report in another thread.)

2) Do they handle FFL xfers for a reasonable fee? (That's another general topic we can do in another thread.)

1) Yes, indoor 5-6 lanes, shotgun friendly (no slugs)
2) Yes IIRC $25, for transfer and if he stocks that weapon he will match price. He carries a lot of Para's, glocks and Xd's last time thru.

I'm a rare Florida native lived here all my 68 years except for the 31 years I spent as a member of the United States Navy. I've owned a Colt 1911 of some sort ever since 1970. Usually, I have more than one. Right now, I own 5. I own one Glock. It's a two-tone model 19 with various bells and whistles. Five 1911s and one Glock... I carry the Glock 24/7. It took me 30+ years to realize it, but that 19 is the finest battle pistol I've ever owned.

Hectic! There's studying, finding a job, trying to get a housemate, trying to sell the motorcycle, becoming part of a fraternity, trying to meet some nice women, more studying mixed in, pulling out loans, stressing about the financial stuff, attempting to avoid the rain, thinking about working out so I stand a chance at meeting good-looking AND nice women, etc etc.

But I'm sure that is nothing next to having 6 kids...

Hey folks, what's the best gun shop that you know of in South FL?

Wouldn't consider them 'best', but the most accessible is DelRay Shooting Center off of Linton in DelRay and Palm Beach Shooting Center off of 10th Ave in Lake Worth (north of DelRay). Both have good indoor ranges. Although DelRay has a rifle range. Palm Beach doesn't. Their gun\accessory prices are higher than anywhere I've ever seen, but that's just South FL for ya'. I prefer Palm Beach just 'cos it's closer to where I live.

If you're willing to drive, Markham Park is an outdoor range that people seem to like.

Firearms Plus in Fort Lauderdale has pretty good prices 'cos they don't have a range. They have a good used selection also.

Rappa29,

Thanks for the info. Actually, I have a membership to the Delray Shooting Center range. Unfortunately, there pistola prices are HIGH!

I just wanted to know if there was a better place to shop in Palm Beach Co.

Unfortunately, there pistola prices are HIGH!

I hear ya'! Depending on what you're looking for, you might want to take a drive and check out Palm Beach Shooting Center in Lake Worth. It used to be owned by the same guy who owns DelRay, but he sold it a few years ago. They have decent used selection and for Palm Beach Co., their Glock prices are pretty good (although their prices for everything else are high).

There's Rays Guns in West Palm, but I've never been there, so I don't know what their prices are like. Gator Guns in WPB off Okechobee. Their selection isn't that great. Trail Guns on Military Trail in Lantana. Never been here either.

Unfortunately, most of the shops down here have prices that are significantly higher than I've seen on the west coast (Pinellas County) or online.

08-30-2004, 22:42
I agree that delray shooting center off of linton is one of the best gun store around. Their range is lacking but still decent. The second best closed and I can't remember the name but it was on copans just west of I95.

By the way my name is Noway and I live in Boward and Dade county. I'm a Texas transplant, but my mother and her family is from Miami and Texas will always my home.

Are you talking about Revere Gun range? I was just told to call them about some gunsmithing for my 1911.

Another gunshop down here in Ft. Lauderdale is Guns & Knives. They have a four lane range. Like Delray, the prices are pretty high, but the selection is awesome and the service is great.

I will vouch for Firearms Plus as well. I have bought my last two guns there. Great prices on the used stuff.

I was planning on coming down for the Labor Day weekend but with a hurricanado coming I think I'll stay in Georgia.

Hello, my name is Peter, and I live in Melbourne. I've been here for a month but haven't had a chance to do much outside of work, but hopefully that will be clearing up soon. I'll fire up the search feature soon, but if there are any good range recommendations (both handgun and shotgun) local to the MLB area I'd appreciate it. Storms have spared my humble apartment, but I'll be glad when it's over as plenty have lost.

Hey Peter, just a quick guide, there is an indoor pistol range on aurora just east of wickham with a decent bunch of guys. There is also one in Malabar but it's a private range, never been to that one myself but there is an IDPA match there once a month, then there is another down is sebastian thats outdoor pistol, rifle and I believe shotgun (skeet?). I usually hang out @ the sebastian range cause its open to the public, and I like to scare the old guys with my 10mm's:joker:
Anyway, welcome to the neighborhood (I live off wickham and Sheridan), and shoot me a pm if you want to throw some lead.;f

There are actually quite a few of us in the Melbourne area for such a small town. Myself, KRS62, JLB (oops, can I say that ;)) and Dukofurl shoot IDPA together most months and I was planning to get together with G20Man to do some shooting before all hell broke loose down here. 2nd Sunday is IDPA and Port Malabar, it's open to all on the weekend for the match. And the third Sunday is IDPA at Titusville but not this weekend due to wet conditions as a result of the recent storms. If you want to come out and need more info let me know.

Still work in the finance industry.

I used to work for First Union Bank as a loan officer. Loans you did were reviewed quarterly by a panel (Called Credit Review Board) and they looked to see if you were following sound lending practices, etc..

Well, one loan I did for a guy with some spotty credit history, but he had gone through a divorce, etc.. but was now over it and his credit was back to normal. I did the loan for the guy and, unfortunately, due to the spotty credit history I had to give him a higher rate based on a scale we had at the time.

The board saw the rate and said, "What are you a loanshark or something?" That was it... it stuck.

Every meeting I went to it was, "Here comes the shark or sharkey"

So I stuck with it as my personal handle when online.

So, can I be a temporary member here?
I've been here since 3 days after Charley hit and toured most of the state. Started in Naples, went to Jacksonville, down to Ft Lauderdale, back over to Tampa. I bet I have been in every little burg in between. I am currently working in a place called Barefoot Bay (Sebastian), one of the worst hit areas during Jeanne. From the looks of it, I will be here for another 6 months.

I may try and take a day off and go shooting at ome point in that 6 months.
If you have insurance related questions, I may be able to help answer them.

Hi Dan,

Long time no type. I've shot a couple IDPA matches at the muzzle loaders range, but haven't really considered joining it since I'm already a member of the Pensacola Rifle and Pistol range. Best I recall, it's pretty cheap, maybe $25/year. Now that I think about it, that's a small price to pay to help keep a range in business. Naturally, I "need" to stop in and see what Tradewinds has for sale anyway, so maybe I'll sign up.

Thanks,
Rusty

I like the area North of Tampa as it is not very tourist-y but still close enough to go see and do things. Pasco County still has plenty of undeveloped spots to put up a house, plus housing is available, BUT it is beginning to grow.

I'm Tom (Obviously) and live in Central Brevard County. I'm a pretty rare 5th generation Floridian. I'm a fairly new resident to this area, don't know but a handful of people outside of work.

I shot IDPA in college and was about to jump into three gun... for a county like Brevard I'm really disappointed in the fact that there is nowhere to shoot IDPA/IPSC/3-Gun that I can find.

In fact finding a friendly, inexpensive place to shoot is difficult... The only ranges I've been to that allows me to use leather is up in Titusville at the Police Hall of Fame, and the two LE ranges.

I'm closest to Action Gun - but the lighting is dim and the ventilation is sub-par. Plus I like to be able to work out to at LEAST 25 yds. Nice staff though - and Kim LaGrasso seems to be a pretty good guy.

Port Malabar seemed like it'd be great - but no drawing, and alot of members give you the look of death if you pull out an AR and shoot more than 1 round in 30 seconds.

I've shot "next door" but only get to do that when we have range time. That's a discussion in itself.

I like shooting next to the highway... but that's only on special occasions - I don't get access unless the proper range personnel are on hand to give me the "okay" and I hate feeling like I'm stepping on toes.

:soap:

Where does the IDPA/IPSC/3-gun crowd from Brevard go to practice anything other than stationary single target hole punching from the ready position?
(I know - Titusville's range is automated, and nice, and ventilated... but it's a haul.)

The public range is off of I75 at Tuckers Grade Rd. It can be busy during the week and downright crazy on weekends.

http://swfsa.tripod.com/ This is a link to the range club I just sent my money to. They limit membership to 300 so, it will take at least a year to get in.

Hey Dave,

I just got my letter from SWFSA last week. Woohoo! I just dropped my check in the mail yesterday. My fiancee and I can't wait to go. We went to Tuckers Grade once and it was plain scary. Nowhere Man

ssgt_acft_mech, you ask,

"What do you mean scary? Alot of people or alot of unsafe people?"

The answer to your question is YES! Weekends are especially bad. In my times there I have seen;

Children running around, none of them with ear protection.

One guys' handgun didn't fire when he pulled the trigger so, he's looking at the gun, pulls the trigger again and sends a round flying cross range.

The worst though, was when shooters asked if they could go down range to hang new targets. Guys yell "COLD RANGE! STOP SHOOTING!" About three guys pick up there stuff to walk down range, when I look over and see a guy loading his gun. I yelled out for everyone to stop. The guy loading the gun had no flaming idea what he was doing! There's no doubt in my mind that this guy would have started shooting.

This range is open to the public and has no suppervision.

P.S. What's the attraction to shooting AR's, AK's or any high powered rifle at a 25 yard pistol range? That one I'll never understand.

exactly.

it was a saturday morning/afternoon back in october i believe. i dont even want to think about going there now with all the snowbirds and extra idiots driving/living around here.

i was plain scared to hang up the targets i brought. i fired a hundred rounds or so through our new G19 and helped my fiancee fire off a couple mags and we left. sheeesh! we've been patiently waiting for our name to come up on the waiting list at SWFSA and it finally has! I'm gonna give them another day to receive my check and I'm calling to setup orientation and cant wait to try it out.

wow.....is there some disclaimer saying that the owner of the property is not responsible for injury or death? Maybe I'll just use my G22 for offing sharks when I go of shore fishing. Up here in S.Dakota the US Parks Service made an area which is I believe to be 100+ acres for people to shoot...The only thing they get pissed about is people shooting trees and dropping old appliances to destroy. Or I'll just treat it as a Military firing range....If someone pops of a round while I'm at the target area, I'm legally allowed to put a round in there *****^c

I must have been out there on a day the benchresters were out.

Since my last post I've met a few of the guys who do IDPA around the region who are PMRPC members themselves. It is my understanding that once you get blessed this way and that you can eventually get on to certain ranges where such activity isn't frowned upon.

If I ever get more time to jump through all the hoops I may end up doing it.

Not a member yet, but PMRPC has a nice action shooting area away from the benchrest shooters. I just started shooting IDPA and 3-gun there and everyone is real helpful!

Very late but checking in.

The name is Thomas and I'm in Saint Cloud.

If you are in the Orlando area, give me a shout by e-mail or PM. I'm always looking for a new shooting partner. Couple of nice ranges in Orlando.

ArnisAndyz, the next Orlando gun show is the first weekend of January, the 6th and 7th, I believe.

Thanks Thomas, I'll try and make that gunshow. I was just in Orlando last weekend! Drove my wife and cousins to the Florida Mall for Xmas shopping and decided to kill some time shooting. Found a small but nice range on OBT North of the mall. Wish I would have known you were around, I hate shooting alone. (I don't really HATE it, it beats shopping, but I'd prefer a shooting buddy!) I'll PM you if we do that again.

Hey everybody. I'm Dave from Greenacres. I have a G19 and go shooting about 2-3 times a week. Ever want a shooting partner, PM me. Also, if anyone can show me, in person, how to DETAIL strip my Glock, that would be great. I'd even through in a box of ammo or a 12 pack, for your efforts!^c

Hi Rusty here from Port St. Lucie
Didn't see anyone else from here, a couple were close though.
Hope to get together to shoot. It gets boring shooting by yourself.
Trying to get more iterested in shooting "Pins."
We shoot on Thursday nights at the range on Village Green, just off US1 in PSL. Any caliber from 9mm on up will work.
Glock 2901 If you are the only poor man from Martin co ,I'm the one from PSL.

Hey everyone. My name is Andrew and I live in Melbourne. I just moved here a few months ago from NJ. I never owned a gun in NJ because with all the restrictions with using it, I didn't think it was worth it.

So now that I can actually use a gun in self defense, I have decided to get myself a Glock, most likely a 17. But we'll see.
