View Full Version : What would you do with a .50 BMG bolt rifle ?

Short Cut

CA has legislation pending to ban all .50 caliber rifles. Any time there is talk about banning any guns it makes me want to buy one. However with a .50 I think, what the heck would I do with it?

What would you do with a .50 BMG rifle?

I told RedDawn I'd buy the rifle and ammo if he would buy the land to shoot it on.:)

its not so much what you'd do with it, as it is having the right to by it.;)

JMHO.

Around here you could shoot old rusty cars in the next county.

Some of the folk nearly qualify.

Blow away watermelons from half a mile away.

I could mount it on here and hunt coyotes but I think I'd rather have a semi auto.;f

I think just having one is reason enough if you want to spend the $. Thumbs your nose at liberal anti gun types. Unfortunately, my shooting club, while it has a 600 yd high power range, doesn't allow 50BMGs due to the lack of downrange safety area. Can't justify the $ when I can't shoot it. Don ;g

And yes, that is a GSSF hat and a SHEEPDOG T-shirt. :)

And only then would I tell you that it's a friend's rifle and not mine. ;)

Do you get that sudden blast of pressure in your sinuses when you fire that rifle? Recoil isn't bad, but I can't take more than a dozen or so shots because of the pounding my head takes.

I'd buy one if I was rich, simply to have the ultimate in long-range power. It's pretty much a toy (or, if you simply must justify it as some kind of "tactical" weapon, I guess it could come in handy for various "end of the world" scenarios that involve destroying enemy weapons from a mile away ;) ).

If things with no practical purpose are now to be banned, then when are art, music, photography, films, cars in different colors, houses in different colors, clothes in different colors, paint, and anything considered a game (including sports) going to be banned?

"If" I had the rifle, and "If" I had HUGE tracts of um well land I could defend myself If someone was trying to jump my fence half a mile away. Maybe I would just shoot their guns out of their hands while they were in a SWAT plane covered in bullet proof vests.

HAVE A HECK OF A LOT OF FUN!!!!

But on the practical side, (if you must have a practical side), because the value will appreciate after the ban! So if you really don't like it, (and what it can do), you'll get your money back with interest. Better than any passbook account.

What would I do with a .50BMG bolt rifle? I would wear one of those super cool sniper T-shirts (you know, die tired ones) and pose in a badass tactical manners and pretend that I am hunting Abdul or something.

i would get some 30 caliber sabot's and shoot some 220 grain fmj at 5200+ fps if i remember right and see how bullet resistant those ceramic panels in a bullet resistand vest are.

Why not simply use the 50 bmg for deer hunting.... some of those deer have sharp horns... what if they attack ???

Speaking of the "sound of freedom".........each pull of the trigger reminds ya of the song, "Let Freedom Ring"! ;)

I have no interest in ever owning such a thing, but I did write a letter to the author of AB50 explaining the following things to him:

This rifle costs thousands of dollars, weighs in the range of 40lbs, cannot be fired while standing (in general) and is basically useless for criminals. I told him that such a rifle has never been used to commit a crime in California. I told him that I never want to own one but I see this bill as part of a pattern of bills designed to keep chipping away at our rights, and that if this gets outlawed, I'm sure that the guns that I do want to own will be up next. I also asked him what are his legislative priorities. He is wasting the time of the other members of the assembly, and if the bill passes, it will result in the waste of limited law enforcement and court resources to enforce it against people who have no criminal intentions. I told him that there's still work to be done in protecting the environment or improving education and other things, so why is he wasting time outlawing something that is never used by criminals? More murders have been committed using bagels (http://www.aarrgghh.com/no_way/murderByBagel.htm) than by 50BMG rifles in California.

If we don't all fight every step like this, pretty soon we're going to be on this board bragging about our most recent airsoft, and we'll need to get permission from Tom Ridge if we want to buy a crossbow or a slingshot. Even if you're not in California, why not write a letter to:

Assemblyman Paul Koretz
9200 Sunset Blvd Penthouse 15
West Hollywood CA 90069

and explain to him that as a legislator, he should be working to protect our rights, not take them away. Hey, even if you're not in the US, go ahead and write. Say "you are so lucky to have a Second Amendment there, every one of you should take personal responsibility for protecting it, that includes you Assemblyman. Here in ____ we're only allowed to own _____ and our Olympic ______ team has to fly to _____ to practice because they can't get access to Olympic target guns here."

As always, be POLITE and respectful.

I just don't understand why that upsets people so much. I mean, we all aim to be one with the rifle, right? It's a relationship. A serious relationship. Gosh, I mean I gotta trust my life to her,...er,...uh,...I mean it,...um,...you know. It's such a personal thing. So I talk to my rifle,...big deal.

What are you looking at?
