... when turned to a lower intensity?
I had a chance to look through a nice AimPoint on the range today. The dot nice, bright when setting was maxed, but blurred like the BSAs, Tascos I had checked out when not maxed. Is this just something to expect on all red dots?

You are probably trying to focus too much on the dot. You are supposed to focus on the target and then the dot should become clear.

In my experience most of them have a halo looking flare around the dot. The only red dot I've ever used that didnt, was a JPoint.

Ditto on that focusing thing. Try leaving your focus on the target. Could be difficult at first esp. when you've shot nothing but irons. Also, if you use corrective lenses for near-sightedness (can't see far objects), wear it when using dots. Otherwise, the dot will be really blurry. ;)
