I should get my Delta this or next week. I've been thinking about getting a .40S&W barrel to it to shoot "practise loads" :)
- Is a new barrel all that is needed? No I need anything else like .40 magazines?
- What barrels/mags are best value?
I like to shoot target loads out of my guns, and I'm looking for kind of ".38 spec out of .357 mag gun" set up for semi-auto, (with the possibility of full-power 10mm loads if needed).
Or should I just reload lighter loads in 10mm myself? I have .40/10mm dies & equipment.
Thanks in advance :)

I have tried both routes. Loading "lite" 10's is easy. The advantage is all you need is one barrel, possibly 2 recoil springs, and only one type of magazine.
Depending on how hot you want to load on the high end, and how light you want to load on the low end, you might get by with just one recoil spring.
A .40 barrel is an extra expense, but it does let you shoot all that cheap .40 brass. If I had access to a large supply of cheap 10mm brass, I would never consider a .40 barrel. However, I don't.
If you use conventional length .40 loads, you will be better served with a .40 magazine. I have 2 Mec-Gar's that are excellent.
If you can seat your bullets out a little long, they will be suitable for use in 10mm magazines.
Then there is the 357 SIG barrel, and the 9x25mm barrel!;a

Thank you. This is the info I was looking for :)
I will propably later buy a .40 barrel and magazines. Since it seems that not many gunshops here sell 10mm factory ammo it would be convenient to be able to blast away some .40 at times. I also collect brass from ranges and there are more .40 than 10mm found.
