I took my girlfriend and her friend to the local outdoor range not to long ago.

We had a great time.....alot of laughs AND crys, lol

After Explaining range saftey rules how to shoot, aim etc...
I was standing behind her and noticed a few rounds hitting the dirt about 10 ft before the target!....I was like WHERE ARE YOU AIMING! lol
She replies "Oh I Aim then i close my eyes then squeeze the trigger."
I almost fell down when i heard that. I said what if someone were to walk in front of you, you would shoot them down! She understood then. I didnt think it was funny at all at the time. I was pretty pissed after 20 min of exlaining how to hold and and shoot. I guess i forgot to tell her to KEEP at least ONE EYE open while shooting. Jeez, lol

Later that day we went to dinner had some drinks and i started thinking about what had happened. I started laughing i couldnt imagine how someone could do that. WOMEN Continue to Shock me day after day

The fact that she agreed to go with you to a range at all is a good sign. For first time shooters, a handgun may be intimidating, loud, etc. I don't know anybody who did everything right the first time out. If she enjoyed her first range trip, you might offer to do it regularly.

My gf competes with us in IDPA using my Baer Concept VI .45. No intimidation from the noise, recoil, ect. In fact, when she talks about wanting a carry cun, she wants a .45 because she "wants a gun with a big hole in the end 'cause it looks scarier". ;f

Even better is the fact that she shoots pretty darn good.

Hey NIFT21,
I sometimes go up to PA for the weekend, and I shoot at that range where you are in the pic. I hope I don't sound like a deek, but I recognize the bench, and considering you said where you are from...
Not far from Hawley, right?
Nice range. Not too crowded.

Hey,

I think I've been to that range as well. Is that right off of Route 6? I have to travel about 2 hours to that range. I go there for rifle shooting.

On topic....

I've taken a few women shooting. The scariest was when I took my mom. My wife (then girlfriend) has a Beretta 92FS and at the time I had a Beretta 96 Centurian. My mom first shot the 92 and then the 96. After taking one shot on the 96 she turns around and says to me she didn't like that gun and that it kicked too hard. The scary part of it was that when she turned around to say that, she had a cocked and loaded pistol in her hands and was aiming right at my gut. Of course after I pointed out the little safety faux pax she almost had a big freak out attack.

Some women surprise me. My shooting buddy had taken a coworker (female) to the range with us and she wasn't afraid of the gun. She had respect for it, but didn't jump when the shot went off. She was actually a pretty good shot considering it was her first time out. My wife is a pretty decent shot as well.

Thanks for the info, but I was kind of referring to something else;9

Seriously though, it is very refreshing to see pretty women at the range. When my wife goes with me to the range, and she is a looker too, I can't tell you how many silent nods I get from the guys at the range. From the looks I get, they are like, wow...you did good dude. And of course the looks she gets, well........

My experience is that women have always been my best student. Why? They listen, most have no shooting background and beause of a little fear they do exactly what they're told. the very good results don't surprise me anymore. Also, I noticed your range is a bit "rustic".

I don't like the fact that guy's take their girls to the range and they don't show them how to stand right! When I see them at my range, or in some of these pictures or movies posted on here, they're standing like they're posing from some picture.

If you're going to let them shoot, show them how to do it right. (If you don't know how to do it right yourself... then maybe you shouldn't be....)

I do still think that pic'd look muuuuuch better if the holster were a SooperHooperII.

hehe...i would have to agree with half the guys on this thread that i love the pic of the midsection and glock.

as for the topic at hand:
The first time my g/f ever shot a handgun was also the first, and only, time i have ever seen my G19 jam. It seems that when explaining to her how to handle the gun safely and aim and all that good stuff i must have forgotten to tell her to hang on fairly tight. Since she is only 5'4 120 lbs the G19 kicked pretty good. The gun almost hit her in the head and the shell she just shot never got fully ejected before the slide closed again.

nedless to say, after that she hung onto the gun more tightly and now has very good control over the recoil. She also loves shooting my G19 and now wants her own!

Because the picture is contained in a flash movie, you have to hit the "print screen" button on your key board. That will copy a snapshot of your screen to the system clipboard. Then open a photo editor like photoshop, paintshop, etc. Create a new (blank) canvas, and then hit ctrl-V (paste) to paste in the copied snapshot.

You'll have to crop and edit the pic to get the part you want, but thats the basics.

Clear as mud?

Was your friend closing her eyes because of the recoil? If so you may want to go back to basics with a smaller caliber like a .22; I would also suggest to have a 3rd party teach her.

I took my girlfriend to the range a few weeks ago. She had never even seen a gun before this point, and was absolutely terrified of guns. In fact, she was jumping when the instructor was loading dummy rounds into the magazine :)

Anyway, after some dry firing and learning everything she ever wanted to know about the Glock 17 we went to the range and she put her target up and sent it back to about 20-25 feet. She took the gun and squeezed off a round - bullseye! The next five rounds went the same way - so did most of other her rounds on that day.

She is still kind of afraid of that first shot because she doesn't like loud noises :) But at least she always hits where she aims.

Congratulations on your girlfriend overcoming her fear of handguns, lesterm. Women are capable of being great shooters. My wife is naturally a better shooter than her husband, a fact which has caused me some discomfort.

Wow! Nice pix:)

Okay, so congratulations first of all for encouraging a gun-friendly female...it's a rare thing nowadays and it is nice to see another female shooter who isn't a rabid anti-gunner.;Y

And now, I'm going to get flamed for this I'm sure, but I have personally witnessed the effects of my opinion in action. I have found, in my personal experience introducing 25+ females to shooting and the shooting sports, that when a significant other is the one doing the instruction the female tends to become intimidated and uncomfortable faster. I have found, when I have taken boyfriend/girlfriend duos and husband/wives out shooting, that the male significant other invariably takes over, telling the female half "how to do things." Forget the fact I am the one with instructor certifications who gets recommended all the time...;Q It generally has led to the female not enjoying the experience, albeit with a few exceptions. On the contrary, I have found that when I take two to three women shooting in a group, they all leave with smiles and on at least 2 occasions, have left with new pistols they purchased after sampling mine. I usually start with my Ruger 22/45, move to a .38 revolver, then to 9mm autos, .40s, and finally the .45 since it carries so much stigma that it gives them a sense of accomplishment in shooting mag after mag out of it and achieving A-zone hits:) Has anyone else found my experiences/observations to be theirs as well?

Great pix though...brought a smile to my post-shooting cleaning time:)
