View Full Version : Kahr in a Hot Car?

My dealer didn't have a black PM9 w/night sights in stock, but said he'd order me one for $540.00, ~ $589.00 with taxes. Is this a fair price?
Also, I live in Oklahoma where summers are usually quite hot (thankfully not this year, however). How would a PM9 (or a Glock 19, for that matter) fare if I had to leave it in a hot car for some time?
And one more question, please. I've asked local gun and sporting goods dealers about some sort of "car safe" if I had to leave my concealed carry weapon in my vehicle; no one can help me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That is about what they run here in OKC (WITHOUT) night sights.
Outdoor America sells the two-tones with night sights for approx. $580 and without for $515.
H&H has a black PM9 (WITHOUT) night sights for $550.
Who's your dealer?

Sorry, I made a mistake. The price I was quoted was for a PM9 with the regular stock sights, NOT night sights. Whoops. Also, I found a thread elsewhere on GT concerning car storage. But I still wonder about the effects of hot car temps over time on polymer-framed pistols, as I'm a new convert to non-metal guns. Am I being paranoid?
Nope, you ain't being paranoid, just using a belt and suspenders.
Just kidding. Your Kahr or Glock should fair just fine in a hot car. I've left mine on the dash, sans holster, while out working. When I come back the pistol is too hot to touch, but other than that everything is fine.
Good luck.
Glad you found the threads on car-storage. I'm sure the Search Engine would yield several in Carry Issues or Accessories.
The heat thing is kind of an interesting question. The short answer is that the others are correct & there's nothing to worry about, although I'd be careful picking it up. You could probably get into a long discussion of what happens molecularly & will it flex a tiny bit more...? ;0
One of my Glocks is pretty much in the truck year round. No issues.
Not ever having baked one intentionally, I suppose a steel-framed gun gets more uncomfortable to pick up faster versus a polymer framed gun.
All being more uncomfortable than one of my guns with Agrip. ;f

In the GLOCK Armorers class I attended they told us GLOCK frames are good from -70* to +400*...
To be on the safe side I'd say I wouldn't let your Kahr's frame get any hotter then 300*. ;)
(FYI, if your vehicle’s interior IS getting anywhere close to 300* then you must be driving a spaceship & parking it too close to the sun! ;f)

Thanks for the replies, I'll now rest easier when I have to lock my PM9 or Glock 19 in my vehicles.
For now I'll hitch up my suspenders, tighten my belt and beam up to my ship!
