(Posted this in the Black Rifle Club in an existing thread I made for my new rifle. I figured it should go here too.)

Received my EOTECH 512 in the mail today. Incredible piece of equipment. It came with a little wrench, two basic AA batteries, a thumb adjustable screw, and manual. I also bought a little cover for protection. I'm going to buy some lithium batteries when I can because they last longer and, I hear, are more durable.

512: It is awesome. The reticle is beautiful. Even my father's old eyes like it. It is a pretty tight reticle- not blurry. On it's dimmest light setting I could barely make it out. I never even got to the brightest setting because as I was increasing the brightness it got too bright and started to hurt my eyes, so I can tell you the thing can get bright. I got it late today, so I will shoot it tomorrow. Oh yeah, and if I hold the EOTECH right up to my eye the reticle gets very sharp and smaller. When I hold it arms length away from my eye the reticle gets bigger and a little less sharp. As of now, I have it mounted up next to my front site. I didn't tighten the screw as hard as I can; I'm going to shoot my Bushy tomorrow and slide it around figuring out where I like it.
Lastly, if I put to 1 moa dot on a target and move my head around it stays on target.

I believe I just became a spokesman for Eotech. I haven't used, or seen an aimpoint, but I hear those are nice as well. I just like the big circle for aiming at either close targets or fast moving targets, and the sharp little dot for more precision aiming. I have seen a trijicon reflex sight, and I can tell you that the EOtech appears to be far superior.

UPDATE: After experimenting around a little, I've noticed this:
Sharpness of reticle has a lot to do with available light. When it is dark I can see a little "splash" around the reticle, while it is super sharp when there is more light. Note: even when the reticle is at it's "unsharpest", it is still plenty sharp. For example, when I have the lights out the reticle is sharp, but there is some "splash" of little red particles. When the lights are on it is sharper than any computer screen I have seen.

FIRST TIME USE: Love it even more! I go out to the range today, on a very bright and hot sunny Nevada day. When I turn on the EOtech the reticle isn't very bright. With a few clicks of the brightness button and it's as bright as anyone would desire, and it can get brighter. The reticle is sharp, bright, and easy to see. I have it mounted closer to my eye as that's where I think I like it, not out by the front site. I first pop off a few rounds at targets really close (10 yards). It is dead on. Aiming at targets further away (50 yards) and it was hitting high. No problem: easy adjustments. This thing is a keeper. I am shooting it out in the middle of the desert, out in a little valley of hills. The ground is anything but level. I need to get over to an official range (with flat ground) where I can do a "true" zero at either 25 or 50 yards.
