Please forgive this dumb question, but I'm old and set in my ways thus using Winchester ammo almost exclusively in my G19. One of the P.D.'s we've recently sold a PSD to is sending their handler over Monday with the final payment and 5 boxes of "Gold Dot" 9mm ammo. They've recently upgraded to 40 cals at this department and had this stuff just sitting around. My question, and I hated to ask them, what weight (115gr, 124gr, 147gr, etc.)does this ammo come in? Is it usually standard velocity or +P? Finally, for those with experience with it, does it function well in the G19?
Again, sorry to take up space with these seemingly dumb questions, but anything much newer than Black Talon for carrying purposes is new to me. Thank you all for the upcoming education.:)

The Gold Dot comes in 115 grain, 115 grain +p+, 124 grain, 124 grain +p, and 147 grain (some manufacterers will load the 147 to +p but they dont usually get much over 1050 FPS, 50 FPS faster than the standard pressure version).

They do seem to have problems in newer model 19s, especially with the 2183 followers. The best way to find out if they function is to test them yourself!

They are IMO the best bullet ever made!

Thanks HMC! Guess it's time for me to step into the 21st century? My G19 is a second generation, and of course, without the 2183's. Looking forward to see what they bring. One can't have too much ammo, can they??

I prefer the 147 grain load. They dont expand as much as the lighter 115 grain and 124 grainers but they do penitrate deeper. They are also very reliable through barriers such as denim and heavy cloth, which can prevent some bullets from expanding after passing through.

I like the 147 grain weight, as well.

Police dept ammo? My guess is GD 124 +P. Let us know what it is when you get it.

Besides LEO-only ammo, GD is probably the most popular self-defence ammo available.

My guess is GD 124 +P.

That's what I'm hoping for, but appreciate whatever they bring. I'll see what it is tomorrow.

Police departments issue it for a good reason. ;) :) ;a ;c

Well, one box of 115gr +p, a couple of 124 +p, one of 147gr, and several WWB's 115gr hp marked "personal protection."
Nice quality, free ammo, certainly can't complain.
