Anyone here done any hunting in South AR? I may get a chance to hunt hog there, and would like to take a, you guessed it, G20.

What round do I need? What has been a proven performer?

Thanks.

DoubleTap sales the 200 XTP that flys out at 1225-1250 fps from your G-20. I have been testing with them for weeks and have no complaints. The 200gr. XTP will provide plenty of penetration, if not a complete pass through and will also provide larger expansion, thus larger wound channel as compared to the solid lead bullets that others may recommend.

Solid lead bullets have there place on larger game, but the 200gr. XTP by DoubleTap is a great load for hogs. I wouldn't shoot anything else.

I've gotten a few deer outside of East Camden, on Potlatch land next to the airport, but I was using a Ruger Blackhawk. Don't know how numerous hogs are down there, but up in the Ozarks they are becoming a real problem, rooting up hillsides and all. Several NFS rangers have told me "unofficially" when they see me carying a Glock, "shoot all the hogs you want, anytime you want". They also see them as an invading exotic species messing up the landscape.

Here in Central Arkieland, it doesn't look like a great mast crop, so they might be moving more than usual looking for food. Good luck,

Jeff

The two gentlemen I was talking with said you could legally hunt year round with no limit in that area. I am going to have to do some further research on that for myself.

How big have you seen them in your area?

Thanks.

Although I've seen sign of hogs many times when backpacking and hiking the Ozarks (mostly in the Buffalo NR area or Richland Creek Wilderness) but only had the "pleasure" of runing into them twice. Both times it was a small "family" of 6 or 8 and once they took off as soon as they heard me and once they came roaring into my camp and sent us all up some small saplings near by. Cought us totally off guard, I had just gotten out of the stream from a bath and was, how shall we say, completly unarmed (and un-everything else also!). They didn't seem that interested in us, but seemed to be chasing something and we were just in their path.

The larger females were probably under 100 lbs, didn't see any boars in the packs (but whey you're halling your naked butt up a tree, you're not real observent!). I've heard of boars going upwards of 150 lbs. up there, but hunting them for meat seems to be not that popular. A friend did bring home a pretty good sized boar last year, probably 130+ lbs. or so, and I had a chance to put a few 10mms into it (it had been dead a while and wasn't usable for meat), either the 180 on up in Doubletap or the 180 soft point from CorBon should do nicely.

I'm about 2 hours from Memphis, where are you at? You take your G20, I'll take my 500, and we'll do ballistics comparisons. (devil face) Actually, I am not big on huntin', or I'd go deer hunting with my 500 this winter. May get my brother to take it and see if he has luck with it.

Also, I have a 20C.

I am about 4 hours east of Memphis.

A G20 does not bother my wrists. I will not be practicing any time soon with a Smith .500.

How do you shoot that thing, from the hip? Or did it come with a base plate? Talk about Freudian(sic) concepts. :)
