Well, after altering my diet and exercise routine I am finally at the point that I can go through the process. Dropped 13pds to hit weight/ bodyfat. I was 20pds heavier than when I got out of the Corps.

It is actually a reenlistment for me, I did 8 years active USMC and have been out for 8 years. I am attempting to go for small arms repair. I go to take the ASVAB and physical next week, my scores from 1987 are not valid for some reason. What a shame, I had a GT of 133; I guess I will see if my potential has changed much.

Shame the service doesn't have glocks for me to work on.

You go! My wife was in the Army Reserve, and I was a jarhead, so interservice squabbles are common dinner table discussion.;f

Which unit are you going into, mind me asking?

Should be the 949th in Fort Worth.

Thanks, its a pleasure to do something thats important and that I love.

Took the ASVAB this week, AFQT=98 GT=140 not bad for a jarhead. Went up 8 points from when I took it in 1987.

Nope that is 140. 130 GT is not highest unless they do it different by branch of service. I had a 133 in the Corps(That was from 1987) and 140 for the Army last week, so been above 130 for last 17 years.

It could have just been a statement that you can have pretty much any job you want with your 130. Its perfect enough.

And Thanks, what are you going to be doing?

Going to Iraq in a few months. You?

19K, finished OSUT three weeks ago.
I have my sheet here and it says 99% AFQT, 130 GT. 2 other guys in my platoon at OSUT had the same score.

I think, though, that your score depends on luck as much as anything:

1. Answering a harder question correctly gives you more points than an easy question

2. If you answer a question, the next one is harder. If you miss, the next one is easier.

3. Perhaps, you can get a different number of hard versus easy questions? Maybe you started out with a hard question and I got an easy one first?

Another alternative is the test was changed. I know it was recentered sometime in the recent past (since your first test). Maybe it was changed again.

Agreed on ASVAB, I believe its designed to worry more about the guy with a 31 than those of us on the upper end.. I ran out of time on one section, didn't answer the final question on the spatial/puzzles.

First i want to say I am jealous, I would like nothing more than to go Armor. Its just more than my wife can handle. The unit closest to me is Armor and I believe down at Ft Hood for ramp up for end of year deployment to the sandbox. I was there in 90-91 and have no problems going back, but my wife is pretty well against me volunteering for something that guarantees the trip.

I am torn between 45B and whatever leads to 97B. The unit for 45B is about an hour away and the intel is in Austin about 4 1/2 hours away. But the counterintell is what I would like to do the most. Recruiter is on leave this week so I have a couple of days to think about it.

I'm going in on the Try 1 program for prior service.

The ASVAB came in handy 2 or 3 times for me in 7 years but it didnt get me any more pay or rest my weary back while humping through jungles.
Good job though, I dont think I could go back in and take a major pay cut and wear the gay beret they stole from Ranger Batt.
Best of luck.

No pay cut here, part time guard. I have a good job too.

Finished all my paperwork today and took my oath.

I opted to change my MOS and selected 35A - Ground Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer.

I love the way the military makes a job title sound, gives it such prestige.

I think I am going to start calling my kids - Family Canine Environmental Disposal Specialists.
