I have nearly convinced myself to purchase a .50BMG very soon.
(I live in CA, gotta get it while I can)

Having not done too much research on the .50BMG, which rifles are truly competetive, best bang for buck, etc.. I am currently leaning towards the AR-50.

What others should I be considering?
the Serbu is a few hundred less, but it doesn't really float my boat, and probubly won't fit in the safe

I can't spend $6000 on the rifle alone at this point, so keep the suggestions reasonable please.

Thanks

I'm going through a similar thought process. One additional concern that I have is the company that makes it. I would like it to be a company that will be around for a long time so I could get parts and or accessories, have repairs made, etc. In the distant future, I don't want to find myself trying to gets parts/service for a gun that noone has ever heard of.

Agreed with that thought. That's one point for Armalite, I htink they'll be around for a while.

State Arms' .50BMG has my interest as well.

I've got a State Arms Big Bertha. I 've got to say tiat it was a good purchase.

The cost is about the same as the Armalite AR-50.

I have not read about the parts that Armilite use in their guns but I know that mine has an excelent Lothar-Walther 36" match barrel and an awesome user adjustable single stage trigger. The bipod is also very stable.

I havent gotten a chance to shoot mine over 200 yards yet but my best three shot group at 200 was 1 inch with 750 Gr. match hollowpoints.

The AR50 is an excellent value, and consistently places high in various accuracy tests done by the gun rags. One "drawback" is that it is a single shot, but then again, who can afford to feed a semi anyway? ;f With "cheap" ammo @$1.20 per round, it adds up in a hurry. Another plus to the AR50 is that it looks like a rifle should.
Whatever you get, take a good look around for a used one, most people that buy them don't shoot them much. The previous owner of mine bought it new and claimed he had put only 20 rounds through it. I paid $2500 and also got an Ammomaster press, reloading dies, trim die, shell holder, lots of brass, a couple hundred primers, a couple pounds of powder, two boxes of A-max bullets, 80 rounds of Talon ammo, scope base/rings, and some other goodies thrown in on the deal. I topped it with a 30mm Burris Black Diamond mil-dot, and it shoots great. Even with junk ammo like Talon reloads, it's not a problem to keep 'em all on a 9" paper plate @ 500 yards.

I'm very happy with my AR-50. It is well built. Armalite developed the AR-50 using the 12.7 X 108 Russsian cartridge. Once they were happy with it, they detuned it to .50 BMG. I believe that it will be very reliable in the future. It has been 100% reliable so far.

I'm still looking for a good scope. I want a NightForce.........
