So to celebrate the AWB expiration, I decided to go out and buy a new gun.

I brought home a HK USPC in .40. My first HK.

Have not shot it yet, and not sure what to expect as I am more used to SIGs, Glocks, and Berettas.

My only question so far is that the extractor seems to be more redish than the rest of the slide. I don't think its rust as I applied some Hoppes #9 which had no effect. Any ideas?

Anyways, pics below:

No worries at all my friend. Enjoy your USPc. I have the same gun as you. I love it to death. Just bought 700 rounds to feed her.

Anyways, they have talked about the extractor color a lot over at HKpro.

It is no problem at all. Just the finish somehow does that: it is not rust.

Only thing about the USP is that it should be dry fired with a snapcap.

Oh yes, and HK deserves good leather;f

HK puts loaded chamber indicators in some of its pistols. Basically, the extractor just bulges past the slide by a millimeter or two when there is a round in the chamber, exposing a red portion on the extractor and providing just enough surface to brush your finger against in a low light situation when you may need to confirm the chamber is loaded tactly instead of visually. I am not sure if they put them on USP Compacts...I know the Tactical has one. Could that be what you're talking about?

Its not rust, just normal color. You, my friend, are going to luv that HK. I have a USP 45 with 7k rounds through it...ZERO failures.

I had a Sig P228 with a reddish hammer. I believe it's from the heat treatment. In any event, it's nothing to worry about. Nice pistol. I went with the P2000 .40, but the USPc40 was a close runner up for me.;c

Besides the red "loaded chamber" indicator, the extractor eventually becomes a purpleish color, that's completly normal. The HK should be the last gun you have to worry about. I've never had a problem with my Compact.

Hey its nothing to worry about. Just use Break Free CLP to clean the extractor instead. We all have that purplish color on the extractor after using Gun Scrubber or Hoppes..so learn from us. That is not covered under H&K's warranty by the way. Called them and asked for my own guns. Becareful of spraying Gun SCrubber around the decocking buttons too for those of you who have a USP, it will take the paint off the frame. The LEMs on the P2000 dont have that painted S/F button.
