Again, this listing isn't mine and has a reserve so who knows how high it his reserve is (his buy it now price is high, even considering the condition). That gun is the FBI variant, but to get the kind of money his buy it now would require he'd likely need to have documentation of FBI Academy use/purchase.
Anyway, if there's anyone out there like me looking specifically for 10mm's to add to thier collection and they want 'em in mint condition then they know how few and far between they are.
Here's the link:

If anyone knows where there's a MINT S&W 1026, 1036, 1046, 1066, or 1086 (preferably with box and papers), please let me know...
Thanks!

What would make it an "FBI Gun", is if it has the mag-disconnect de-installed, and engraved the gun with the safety warning. He should have shown that photo. Otherwise, it is just another 1076.

Yes, that is what makes it the FBI variant, and he did show it in this pic:

Nice peice but I have to imagine his reserve is still over $800 bucks and if that is the case he is dreaming.

You're probably right Wiseman. I always try to give my friends here a heads up when ever I see a real nice 10mm for sale - even if it is a little high. :)
Like I said above, I'm a stickler for excellent condition so this gun caught my eye even though I've already got a nice one.
Heck, I'll go ahead and put a nice starting bid on there and see if it happens to have a low reserve (doubt it).

1036? Have never heard of this 10xx series variant. There are the six production autoloaders (1006/1066, 1026/1076, & 1046/1086), the various 610s, and the modified 4516 used for the FBI ammunition tests, but don't know about a 1036. There was supposedly a 1016 prototype, but I've never seen any documented proof of it. What would a 1036 be? Alloy frame compact?

I had heard rumor of a 1036... Supposedly it was an even shorter barrel S&W. I'm not sure if it was based off the 1066, 1076, or 1086 though. I can't even remember where I saw the write-up on it. Allegedly it was a prototype that was also submitted for FBI testing when they tested the 1076. If I remember right I read about it the same place I read about the 1046 and aside from you, that is the only other place I've heard of it... I doubt I'll ever get my hands on those ultra-rare variants but I can hope! :(

I submitted an info request to Mr. Roy Jinks at S&W on my 1046 and hope to have more information on it (production numbers, etc.) in the near future. When the letter comes I'll scan it and post it.
My 24th edition Fjestad's book only lists the 6 production guns mentioned above. Doesn't peep about a 1016 or a 1036. We need to start bugging the snot out of the performance center to see if they would build a run of 1016s, maybe even with a scandium frame, that would make me drool.

That would make me flinch! ;)

The info I read certainly could have been inaccurate, we all know how trustworthy the info written on the web is...
Nordic, I'd love to know more about the 46 as well. You are the only person I've ever heard of having one. I'd even like to see some detailed pics if you've got 'em.
In any case, I hope to have one 10mm from every maker but I'm trying to get all the S&W 10mm's first (although it isn't likely I'll get the uncommon ones).
I do know where I can get a used (with holster wear) 1086 for $375. The price is certainly right, but I'd rather spend more and get one in better shape but so far I haven't found one...

"One of each" was my original goal, but I've somewhat modified that to "as many as possible." Even with as many 10s as I have now there are some real glaring holes in my collection. I still don't have a Glock 29 and even though I have five 1911s I'd still like to get a Kimber. Other "must haves" include:
Springfield Omega
Colt Double Eagle
Glock 29
S&W 1026
S&W 1066
The "some day" list includes:
Springfield Linkless
S&W 610 fluted 5"
Kimber Target II
EAA Witness Compact
Dan Wesson Global Hunter
Then there are the "conversion projects":
Ruger 3" GP-100
S&W 4" M28
And of course there's the "lottery list":
Bren Ten Special Forces Dark
Colt blued Delta Gold Cup
HK MP5-10
Hmmmmmm, guess it's time to get the shovel and see if I've got any oil wells or gold deposits in the back yard!
I would just like to scrape the funds together to get a glock 29, If Smith actually did build a 1016, there is no telling what sort of financial ruin I would bring on myself to get one. About everything I want is on the "lottery list" now.
:)

Nordic, I've got both a G29 and a Colt Double Eagle, what kind of trade we gonna do for that 1046? ;f
Bullman, we'll get together sometime soon so you can shoot the G29. I really like mine. I CCW with it almost all the time. I need to put more rounds through it though. To be honest, I haven't put the number of shots through it that I normally would a gun I trust my life to (shame on me...)

Ha, I don't think there's anything out there short of an MP5-10 that I would swap the 1046 for, and maybe not even then. But then having that FBI 4516 10mm sure would make an interesting conversation piece!

I thought that's what you'd say. I guess you can't blame me for tryin'. I shouldn't have sold my Bren's years ago either, but at the time something had to go and it was only a safe queen so it was one of the first on the chopping block so to speak. I've been really trying hard lately to get the rest of the common S&W 10mm's but I am having a hard time finding them in mint condition like I prefer (and normally with all the extras like box/papers).
Are you gonna shoot some pics sometime of your '46 for us to drool over? ;G

Dang, box and all - I AM DROOLING! It's sweet, and in good condition too. Thanks for the picture buddy; that'll keep me up tonight!
I have to know, did you buy it from someone that knew what it was or did you steal it? I got a DaisyVL Presentation (shoots caseless .22 ammo) one time for VERY cheap because the guy thought it was an air rifle and had it marked that way. I didn't correct him.

I have looked through my bookmarks and found the reference to the 1016 (http://marina.fortunecity.com/harbour/347/10mm06.html) but not the 1036. I was thinking they had the same length barrel (~3.5"), just different trigger arrangement (like the '66 vs. '76 vs. '86).
Maybe I just had a wet dream about more snubby S&W semi-auto 10mm's.

Got it off Gunbroker for $450 (used the "buy it now" option). It was a gun store or a pawn shop if I remember right. I just about had a seizure when I saw it. I had to keep looking at the pics over and over and because I wanted to really make sure it was a 1046, but then I was afraid someone else would get it while I was staring at it so blinked a couple of times and then hit the button. Definately makes up for the NIB Springfield Omega I passed up on for $550!

Wow! I wondered Nordic - mostly because it isn't in several of my books. I only know of it because of my never ceasing quest for 10mm information. The only book value I've seen actually shows the 1046 listed lower than the 1086 for some reason.
I keep a watchful eye on several gun auction sites for 10mm's but it's been dry lately. I finally found one really nice S&W, but it's about $300 too high. I've decided to focus on the S&W line lately and try to finish it up (probably except for the rare ones).
