View Full Version : My new AR-50 is on the way
Thanks to the socal fifty shooters that were out at Angeles range Sunday morning, who were all very nice people, that were happy to answer my questions, and let me shoot their variety of rifles. I went straight from the range to plonk down the $$$$$ on an AR-50.

Excellent! Get the accessories on the way too; Scope rail, base/rings, scope, and a can of .50 ammo. Make sure the scope has LOTS of vertical adjustment for those 500 & 1000 yard shots and beyond. Armalite sells an angled scope rail (Or base...? I don't remember.) for those really, really long shots. A bipod & adapter is almost a necessity too. And we want to see a pic or two when ya get it.
Of course I am getting the accessories!
I am geting the 15 minute scope rail
The Prince bipod, and rear monopod, and bolt stop thumbscrew (purchased directly from mr. Prince, I was at his house yesterday) He makes them for Armalite.
I haven't decided on a scope yet, everybody says the Nightforce SXT is the way to go, it has a ton of vertical adjustement, but is pricey!
Sorry, no pics. I just blew all my money on a rifle, no $$$$ left for a camera!

:) ;f ;F ^c ;?
I love the Armalite ad that says "Excuse the noise, it's the sound of Freedom". ;f
Please send pictures. Welcome to the club!
I enjoy letting people shoot my firearms at the range. It's funny when some people show interest in my AR-50 but turn down a chance to shoot it when I offer. :)
I took a friend and his two boys and daughter shooting a month ago. His 16 yr. old daughter had never pulled ANY trigger. Her first shot ever was with my AR-50. She's hooked! ;f

COOL!! I am jealous. How much was it?
They retail about $2700,
I got a better deal (group buy), mostlty due to very lucky timing
I got a better deal (group buy),
I've never heard of a group buy on AR-50's. Whas that from biggerhammer.net? I don't hang out there, maybe I should.... :)

yep, but the group buy is closed now. I must admit, my timing could not have been any better!

No worries. I own www.AR-50.com. You can see mine there. :)
The website is very basic. I haven't had time to update it. When I do, it will VASTLY improved. I've seen it in my mind, I just haven't made it happen. ;Q

I hope you don't mind, but I provided a link to your little site to some (non-shooter) friends of mine. The Armalite site shows the rifle, but nothing else in the picture to give it scale. The picture of you holding your AR-50 provides scale to the gun, after seeing that pic, they are all amazed at how BIG the rifle actually is. :)
I hope you don't mind,
I don't mind. Websites are meant to be viewed, and AR-50's are meant to fired! :)
I posted some pictures in the .50 BMG Pics thread. The one with the cartridges is one of my favorites. I know many hunters that have never heard of a .50 BMG. To them, if it's not a .30-06, 12 ga. or 9mm, (or a bow), they've never heard of it. They are shocked when they see the .308 Winchester next to the .50 BMG.
I call my AR-50 the 'Gentle Giant'. It really is that much fun to shoot.
Please post pictures when your AR arrives.

Wow, that is one bad a** rifle. Wish I could afford one, but I don't think I could sneak it in the house.

Hey Elsolo,
Congragulations on the new unit. I just picked one up last week and finally shot it today. Only had a 200 yard range available at the gravel pit, but still a real blast. I'd never shot a .50 before and my butt was pretty puckered when I pulled the trigger. I didn't really believe the hype about the effectivenss of the muzzle brake. I shoot some other high power rifles, (30-378 and 338-378 Weatherbys) so I expected something that would rattle the fillings out of my teeth!!;P
Well, like the instruction manual says in step 7 of the loading and firing section, "You will know when the rifle fires", I was amazed at the lack of recoil!! Think it's like my .44 carbine or less. The muzzle blast is something else, but I used plugs AND muffs, so not bad at all.
I'd bore sighted the unit and the first shot was in the bull, so only a few clicks and I was on target. You can see in the photo I used a pretty sad rest, but it worked well enough where I could hit soda cans every shot. Wish I had brought more ammo with me, but I'd thought that this would be 'dancin' with the big girls" and 20 rounds would be more than I'd want to shoot.
Anyway, will be heading out to a much bigger pit next week and will try at longer ranges. I have a Leupold 4.5-14X Mark 4 scope on it and hope it holds up to the recoil.
Think you're going to love your new shooter, the only problem is feeding it!!;f Looks like I'll have to save up for a press that can handle the .50 cases.

Don't worry about that. The Leupold Mk IV is one of the most reliable scopes available for a .50 BMG! :)
The FCSA skipped over the Mk IV during their scope test because it works so well. They tested cheaper scopes that many people will consider for their .50's.
I want a Mk IV for my AR-50. ;f
It took forever for Armalite to ship it, but it is finally at my dealer and the 10 day wait ends next Tuesday.
Trying to decide on glass, kinda leaning towards an IOR 10x56.
Funds just became quite limited however, damned employer fianlly got around to laying me off like they said they would three times in the past year :( But this time they mean it, today is the last day. Trying to talk myself into a final fit of discretionary spending, it'll kill me to have my new 50 in the safe and no glass so I can't shoot it. I guess I could take that POS Simmons 44 mag off my little 10/22 and see if it lasts long enough to get it sighted in.
anybody ever buy a a scope throug "Don UT" on biggerhammer?

Man-O-Man Elsolo! Talk about bad timing on the job scene. I've bought a sfew scopes on E-Bay and had good luck, so that may be an option if $$$s are an issue, or maybe a 'want to buy" ad in the clasifieds here on GT. Would be a shame to go with second rate glass on your new toy. Lots of luck with the glass and a new job.
