View Full Version : JHP Results
As promised, I tested my "GG" series 19 with the dreaded "1" on the barrel today with CorBon 115gr JHP. I used 4, post ban, 2183 follower magazines and had no problems at all. No FTF, FTE, or LRN and accuracy was excellent. I also ran a mess of 100gr Pow'R Ball through it, too, but no surprise that it fed with it's profile. I threw in some mixed magazines of the two JHPs and ball just for grins, also no problems. The hint of reservation that I had from reading all of the negative G19 threads is gone and my 1911 is being replaced tonight as the primary HD pistol!

Run 200 rounds of your intended carry ammo before trusting your life on it. Not just G19s, but any carry auto pistol. "A mess" is not enough.
I'll have to disagree on the arbitrary "200" as the magic number for ammo/weapon reliability/compatability. I think that focusing on the magazines is the key. This is how I test it with any pistol. I run all of my magazines for that weapon through with the chosen round. If no problems, I put about 100 or so rounds of ball through the gun to get it dirty. Then, I again run all of my magazines through with the chosen round. If no problems still, that is good enough for me until I get more magazines. Then, I go through the whole process again. I am a little anal and number my magazines to aid in the process.
I want my pistol to be as reliable as possible, but I expect it to malfunction, as any tactically minded individual should. That mindset forces me to practice malfunction drills regularly and always have contingency plans. Any individual that expects any firearm to be 100% reliable has a good chance of being severely disappointed someday with some extreme consequences to himself or those that he loves. I think Benjamin Franklin said "The only way to be safe is to never be secure." I agree and will never be 100% secure in any weapon's reliability. Hopefully, that way, I'll always be thinking and have a back up plan.

I thought that I was being paranoid, but apparently I'm not the only one who re-tests the reliability of guns regularly; i.e. whenever I get new mags, springs, followers, or when any other change is made.
I also do the reliablity after mag changes spring changes anything.

Interesting, I tested a Gxx G19 with 2183 followers and Cor-bon 115's not too long ago and they jammed on the first round. A quick sling shot and she was off to the races.
