Just bought a G34 after selling my G17 back to the Govt. (long story).
I want to put a red dot sight on it because I didn't like the factory adjustable sight and always wanted a red dot sight for competition shooting...
I also don't like to mock around with the original factory equipment so what's out there that can let me mount a red dot without altering anything and what would be the best red dot to get if using one of the rail mounted mounts?
Anyone seen or heard of anyone used one of those Doctor Sight or JPoint sights? Those are small red dot sight thingy mounted directly on slides..any opinions?
;P

My wife has a Tasco Optima (same a Jpoint) on her Glock 24c. It has been on for over 4 years and no problems. The 24c gets a lot of trigger time. Have gone thru one battery so far. I always put the cover back on the sight whenever it is not being used and that turns it off.
You can get the sight with either a 3.5 or 7moa dot.My wife has the 7.0 MOA. (she found the 3.5 to small for her). The 3.5 if great for precison shooting. We just find the 7.5 easier for us with older eyes.
Given the choice between the JPoint and the Doctor I would go with the Doctor. When this Optima dies it will be replace with the Doctor. The Doctor sight is more money but is aluminum and stainless steel not plastic.
You need to order the Glock mount at the same you order the sight.
Goes on easy and doesn't require anything special. Another plus that my wife liked was she could still use her standard Blade-tech holster and not have to buy a special holster.
If you want a red dot it is the way to go. Small and compact.
Makes shooting so much easier.
If size is not an issue than something like a C-More sight works really well.

Thanks for the info! :)
Just wondering how did you get the original front and back sight off when you install the Optima mount?
There are reports of 'dot searching problem' i.e. becaus eit's small and single optical plan, sometimes the dot is hard to find, do you or your wife ever experience that?
I liked the idea of DoctorSight but just never seen any in IPSC competitons as such, therefore having doubts about them...do you think this is justified? ;Q
Thanks again...:)

Iceman 27,
You might want to look at the JPoint sight as well. I think it is the same thing as the Optima red dot as they are priced similarly. EABCO was running a special on these sights for a while (it included the mount as well). I have the 3.5 MOA version on my XD9 and it can be hard to find sometimes so you'll have to practice, practice, practice. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Just wondering do you manily use your gun for defense situation or competition shooting?
How long you had it? How many rounds you shot with it? Did you have any problems?
I know the JPoint is similar to the Optima but they are similar priced with the DoctorSight but seem to with less speced not not they are not good but I am more concerned with competiton shooting...hmmm...hard to make a decision! ;g

Iceman,
I've had it for about 3 months now and I've put about 1000 rounds through it. It definitely improves your target acquisition times and your accuracy so my experience has been very good. The only problem that I've had with it so far is that the two top screws that secure the sight to the base did come loose on me initially. So, I made sure to screw them in as tight as possible for the next time.
I only use this gun for target shooting. I have my sub compact for self-defense and that weapon mounts TruGlo Brite Sites for its optics. Until red dot systems are more durable and don't require batteries, I don't trust them for self-defense.
Hope this helps.

Iceman,
It looks like the JPoint is now the modern name for the Optima. They are one and the same.
Give EABCO a call and see if they have a mount for the Glock 34. Here's the web page:

Good luck!

Iceman:
Had gunsmight remove both front and rear sight and install the Optima for me.
Pnguyen678 picture gives you exactly what you see thru the Optima/Jpoint/Doctor. Double the size of the dot and you get the idea of what a 7moa dot is like.
The Optima is on my wifes 'fun' gun. Defense guns are all night sights.
The red dot sight "sets" higher than ordinary steel sights so it take a lot of practice to get that alinement for really quick shooting. It is easy to "loose" the red dot.
The big advantage for us was that my wife and I see handgun sights (iron) totally differant. By using the Optima we can share the same gun.
Also in most shooting sports the red dot sight puts you in special category.
