View Full Version : Best drop-in extractor for the Springfield Mil-Spec?
My Dad and I are tuning a Mil-Spec and I was wondering is there's a particular extractor that will just drop right in and offer more reliability/strength over the long run.

Get a Cylinder & Slide extractor, or a Norinco extractor from Marstar. As far as I know, these are the only two that are genuine spring steel. They will hold a set and won't need constant "tuning".

JUst as an FYI, I replaced my Colt 1991 with the Bulletproof extractor from Wilson Combat. It has a great reputation, but I sure had to do a lot of fitting. I had to remove quite a bit of metal in order for it to fit.
While almost any extractor you buy will fit in the channel, you will still have to check and possibly adjust the tension on any replacement extractor. An Ed Brown has the proper bevels on the hook and pad but they are usually a bit long and require some work at the back to be flush with the slide. A Wilson usually isn't too long but needs some beveling and polishing on the hook and a little on the pad. I've never tried a Cylinder & Slide extractor so I don't know about those.
