So I just bought my first rifle, it's a 22-250. A friend of mine has convinced me that there is more to life than handguns and got me to buy a rifle so I can go coyote hunting with him.

Now I need to find a scope and I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking for. Can anyone please either direct me to an informative site or give me the basics of what I should be looking for (specs, price, etc.)

Like I said, I'll be using it mainly for target practice and coyotes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'll move this to the optics forum.

However: A 3-9X variable will cover in close to unGodly distances... expect to spend up to $400 for good glass.

As in handguns, where a good handgun deserves a good holster, a rifle is as good as it's glass.

Leupold, Burris, Nikon, Zeiss, and a variety of other very good optics makers make scopes that will work for you. The Leupold Vari-X II would be a good medium cost scope to start, it'll do fine for target work and also for accurate hits out to 600+ yards if you're a good shot.

I'm not primarily a "scope man" so I'll let others inform you on the rest. Make sure you get good solid rings too.

Thanks for the help. I just found some great info on Cabela's website as well.
