I am having a problem taking my slide off to field strip it. This is the first Glock that i have owned, but i thought that i was to hold it upside down, pull chamber back to first click, push up on both release slides, then pull the trigger. Am i messing up or is the gun? Thanks

Pull the trigger first and make sure you're not pull the slide back too far.

Holding the gun upside-down to field-strip is odd--and unnecessary. Do you have the Glock owner's manual? If not, request one from Glock in Smyrna.

The procedure:

1. holding the gun upright, remove magazine

2. check chamber to make sure the gun is UNLOADED

3. the trigger must be in the rear-most position. Point gun in safe direction and pull trigger if necessary.

4. pull the slide back JUST A LITTLE! If you pull it back enough to reset the trigger, you need to start over at step 3. A clever way to do this is to grasp the gun BEHIND the grip and squeeze the slide back with your fingers while holding the frame in place with your thumb and palm. (It's easier to demonstrate than describe!)

5. while holding the slide back, use two fingers on either side of the gun to pull the slide lock lever down and push the slide forward. It should move off the frame.

It may take a bit of practice to get the exact feel for field-stripping (how far to pull the slide back, etc.), but once you "get it" it becomes very easy.

thanks, I do not have an owners manuel, but i will try to get one.

To put it back on i just slide it in from the front. The one time that i did it, the slide did not set even and was a pain to get back off. Thanks

Yep, I "cross-threaded" a Glock slide a time or two when I was new to them. You need to be VERY careful to get the slide rails lined up in both the slide rail grooves before pushing the slide back on. Then push it back until the trigger resets (goes to the full-forward position).

You can find good pictorial info on several sites, including Glockmeister, showing various levels of detail stripping and other good stuff.

Hope you enjoy your Glock. I sure do like mine! ;c
