It was a challenge to get a few inches in front of their faces and have enough time to position the camera and allow for the shutter lag. Patience is recommended.
The third tarantula was in a cage. The ranger pulled it out and let me play with it a bit. It was very furry, light, and it felt a bit like a touch of a cat rubbing lightly against you as it passes by.
Tarantulas don't bite unless in self-defense or for food. As long as you're gentle with them, they're of no threat to you.
Tarantulas give me the willies. I don't like spiders.
