View Full Version : Vp70z
Very new to the World of HK. Actually bought my first HK a Tactical from this board a few weeks ago. Haven't been able to take it home as of yet sadly (it takes forever NY to add it to your permit) I have noticed a few VP70Z's for sale for under $500. Any thought's about them? I can't find much info other than a basic description/history. Was wondering if it would be a fun range gun or money better spent else where? Right now it's a toss up between that and a Carbon-15 Pistol...Thanks

Not claiming to know much about this weapon But I did own one at one time. They can be had for under 500 easily. For me the gun is a more a collector. I bought it because it was a HK and I had never seen one. The trigger is ugly really ugly (Heavy trigger pull). The VP70 I had worked 100% it just was tough for me to shoot well. I sold mine due to needing money quickly. I just have not stumbled across another one for a good price.
So I guess it depends what you want it for. Fun Range Gun - I would say no - A neat gun to show at the range heck Yea.

The non-"Z" model had a buttstock attachment that allowed three round bursts. Interesting gun, horrible trigger pull though. One of the first reasonably successful polymer pistols, just a BAD trigger!.Collector's piece for me.
Owned a few of them. They are great except that the trigger is completely hellish and nothing can be done with it. When I say the trigger is completely hellish, I mean you just can't imagine. DAM!!
Other than that, they are pretty cool. They would be better with an american style mag release and more conventional sights (the front sight, is a novel idea, but it sucks).
Mags can be tough to find and still cost around $70 each. There are many much better guns.
The VP70Z is primarily a collectors thing.

I have owned several of the VP70Z models. I first bought one because it was an HK, high magazine capacity, and they looked like something out of Star Wars. The trigger pull is fairly stout, especially if you compare it to a conventional firearm. The trigger pull reminds me of all of the DAO handguns out there. Pick it up feel the trigger if it is not hard for you to pull, it may be for you. If you remove 3/16 of an inch from the bottom of the magazine follower the mag will hold 19 rounds, with one in the pipe you have 20 rounds. When I discovered the simplicity of the design, it made me like the gun even more. Hk stated in their advertisement that the firing mechanism only has two moving parts. The trigger pulls back a heavily weighted spring loaded firing pin and releases it, bang. It is a super system for reliability, but that trigger pull. I have never had a misfire, or a single malfunction to date with a VP70. If you have a moderately strong hand you can rip through a magazine like nothing. My wife has to use two fingers to pull the trigger. I hope this helps.
