Does anyone know of the legality of carrying a bolo in one's vehicle?

No, I'm not planning on using it in lieu of a gun. Its just that last week a sudden heavy downpour of rain caused a tree to fall in the middle of McArthur highway in Paniqui, Tarlac and it caused a great big traffic jam. Luckily, the residents in the area were able to chop the tree up with their bolos and move it off the road piece by piece. That's why I want to have a bolo... or even an axe if I can find one that's small enough... in my car :)

I don't know about the legalities but back in the early 90's I used to have one constantly in my trunk...plus a balisong under my dash...

I, too always wanted a tomahawk axe in the car as a, uhm, rescue implement. I plan to get one when possible and have our excellent local bladesmiths copy it.

That's one of the advantages of living in a rural environment. Having a bolo in your car will arouse suspicions in Metro Manila or any large city. In here its common place to see people with bolos on their waist, their motorcycle, their owner type jeeps, their cars etc. Its also a given that almost every adult male here in Batangas carries a balisong in one size or another(like a badge) and the authorities turn a blind eye to that fact.

Hahn-Manila sells a nice small axe with a Gerber trademark. Quite expensive though IIRC around 3,000 php. As for axes, I'd like one of those Tomahawks that Mel Gibson wields in "The Patriot". I would love to learn how to throw one of those at an unsuspecting BG.:)

edited to add:
Don't you just love the internet. Came across this site (http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/skills/beard/throw_tomahawk.htm) that teaches how to throw a tomahawk;f

Why would it be illegal to bring one? Just the same, to make it appear less threatening, dapat yung scabbard nya suot mo din, parang carpenter's gear ang dating. Pull out the 'tool' when you need it, parang baril na nakaholster muna.

Lalo na kung class o 'tactical' ang brand ;)

As long as the vehicle you are driving is a private vehicle, you can certainly bring a bolo in the trunk, along with the usual tools like the jack, tow rope, ewd, or even that military folding shovel. I have a jungle bolo and a shovel in my car, so far, walang reklamo ang mga sundalo sa checkpoint, kasama kasi sa mga tools ko.

Okay, thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I'll keep mine along with my other tools, like my tire wrench, long Philips screwdrivers, etc. Oh, did I mention that my minivan doesn't have a trunk, so my tools are stowed in the bin under my seat ;)
