Pards,

Most of you know what type self-defense street tactics I advocate. Namely, simple, fast, practical, effective tactics that anyone can use without having to spend years in training or having to become a martial artist.

The one and only street tactics book that I can recommend with no reservation is: "SECRETS OF STREET SURVIVAL-ISRAELI STYLE" by Eugene Sockut, available at Amazon.com.

To quote from the back cover, "In this book, Israeli self-defense and small arms specialist Eugene Sockut shares the secrets his people have gleaned from years of prevailing in hostile territory."

"Based on a lifetime of study, experimentation, and worst-case-scenario planning, [this book] is a compilation of the best, most practical ideas Sockut has garnered from those who have "seen the wolf and conquered him."

If you can read only one book on street survival principles and tactics, this is it. It covers everything: mind-set, weapons, tactics, rigs for the street, riots, your vehicle, home, and even hand-to-hand and knives.

I personally recommend this book 100%. ^c

There's many books devoted to just having decent hand to hand skills, and this guy is going to teach it in one chapter, right? Funny man.

Maybe you should read it before criticising? That would be the intelligent thing to do, wouldn't it? ;P ;Q ;P

I have his book and his video. They're interesting, although other equally BTDT types offer contrary opinions.

Of course, the truly intelligent thing to do is give us your bona fides, so we can decide if YOUR opinion merits consideration. Why should anyone take your word on this?

anything from my "creds" either. The H2H aspect is WAY beyond being taught much of anything at all, in a HUGE book. The fact that you don't know that is sufficient evidence for my opinion of what you "think". I flat don't give a hoot what you think.

V,

Sweaty is Gunkid the troll. He is a zero who's only skill is posting thousands of post then claiming that makes him a big boy. He is't worth the bandwith.

I have Sockutt's book somewhere in my plunder, and I think it is quite good, though heavily idiosyncratic.

It IS good, as long as you realize he's seeing everything through the lens of the Israeli experience, where you're defending against terrorists, not street criminals with an economic motivation.

He knows he'd get his ass kicked clean back to Texas.

"Idiosyncratic"? ;P That word isn't even in my dictionary!!!

The armed self-defense principles Sockut presents are applicable anywhere, although most of the real-world examples he uses to illustrate those principles took place in Israel.

This isn't a step-by-step how-to book, but rather a distillation of a lifetime of proven self-defense principles, along with numerous examples of how those principles were actually applied in life/death self-defense situations.

It's the best book of its type that I've come across, and a must-read for anyone wanting "bottom line" solutions to real-world life/death self-defense situations.
