I have a bunch of gear and two guitars that I play now. I recently sold a Les Paul and an ESP (Custom M-II) and now play an Ibanez S-model with Seymour Duncan pickups and a Jackson Dinky with EMG's. Between those two guitars and all the gear I have I can pretty much get any sound I want.

I play two right now, both ESPs. One is a Black Explorer in the Gibson style I got in 96. It has EMG-81s and is basically like what James Hetfield popularized. The other is a prototype Jeff Hanneman signature that was displayed at the NAMM show and built in the US custom shop. I used to have a Kirk Hammett KH-2 with the Ouija board graphics but sold it. Next guitar will be a B.C. Rich american handmade Kerry King tribal V.

Hey Eyespy, tell me about that PRS. I've been really thinking about buying one (if I can quit buying all these dang guns!). I've played a few, and Have really enjoyed them. I like them because they are so comfy yet have such a range of sounds. I say this cause I love the way my bass player's Les Paul sounds, but can't stand the feel of it to save my life. I was just wondering if its worth it, or we'll I be scared to take the thing out of the case cause it costs so damned much.

Hydrilla do you like your Taylor? Is it one of the newer ones with the "NT" neck?

I had a Taylor 412ce, but had to sell it a little over a year ago after I lost my job and my wife was pregnant at the time.

I recently picked up an incredible "bang for the buck" guitar ... it's a Blueridge 143, a made in China knockoff of a Martin 000-18VS. It's got all solid wood, forward shifted scalloped bracing, and bone nut and saddle. the quality of the wood, especially the top, is exceptional. With a hard case, delivered to my door, it was $439.
It's built better than any Asian import guitar I've ever seen, but it's not quite as nice as a real Martin, or my old Taylor.

Saving up for a D-28 now.

Hydrilla
10-24-2004, 20:28
Grabbrass, I LOVE my Taylor. It's not a new one at all, I bought it new in '93. It's got the flat finish unlike the newer ones. Had to put it down for the last several years due to carpal tunnel and tendonitis, and unfortunately I stored it in a closet without humidification. No permanent damage and after a truss rod adjustment and getting refretted, it sounds better than when it was new.

Sorry to hear you had to sell your 412. I've been in similar situations in the past and have even sold ALL of my guns once (didn't have any that were unique and couldn't be replaced) but my Taylor is special to me.

Glad you like your Blueridge, sounds like a nice axe. Martins are sweet. I'm a big bluegrass fan and wish I could afford a Martin. Even though I like my Taylor, those Martins are *the* sound of bluegrass.

guitar-wise, I've got a '72 Fender Musicmaster (very heavily customized) and a 2004 Jensen Mjöllnir (made it myself from scratch), which is basically a Tele body, neck-through construction, with an EMG 81 at the bridge and a Kahler trem. no controls, just a mini on-off switch.

amp-wise, I've got a modified '68 Fender Bassman (sounds Boogie-ish) running through a Carvin 2X12 cab. but I'm mainly using my Podxt lately.

of course, I've also got and electric bass, and upright bass, a full drum kit and some hand drums, but that wasn't the question, was it?

The one Ibanez is a raspberry rg270dx. I grabbed one when they first came out and got a great deal. The bluish one is an rg450dx - great tone. I replaced the head gears and ordered a customized pickguard from a Bay Area company. The acoustic is an AW10. Behind the raspberry Ibanez is a gsr200 bass (non active pickup)- It's not bad for the price. The American Standard Strat is teal. Thanks for asking.

Right now I'm banging on a black Yamaha Compass series acoustic, model CPX-5BL. Not a bad budget cutaway.

I also have an Ovation 12-string (Celebrity - yeah, yeah - damn cheap version. But this one plays soooo sweeet, I swear), but it is need of repair (split bridge).

The Ovation is signed by Travis Meeks (from Days of the New - fans?? Anyone?)

As soon as I get the balls to spend the scratch, a Taylor WILL be in my possession. I LOVE the 614ce, but can't decide if I want the brightness of the full maple body, or something warmer like rosewood.

I also have a few other crappy acoustics, including a late-60's Harmony that plays like crap, and a really cruddy, cheap classical guitar by Carlos. Ugly stuff.

I've owned something like a million random electrics; Ibanez, Fender, even an Aria Pro II, and one I built from Warmoth parts.

Now I only own acoustics for some reason.

I sold my Epiphone Dot 335 and my Ovation Celebrity Deluxe to the guys in my band when I needed cash a few months back.
