View Full Version : recoil springs
I bought a refurbed model 19 and notice it doesnt have captive guide rod? Does anyone know if any of these were stock? or is it just after market? I am wondering if end may have broken off? it functions fine ?
Is it plastic or steel?
I have never seen a plastic non-captured but that certainly doesn't mean they dont exist.
I would have to say its plastic or poly

end may have broken off but may have been intentionally pulled out as well...is the end hollow?
If it's a plastic rod it is propubly a stock Glock rod that has had the end poped off to replace the old recoil spring with a new one.
All my Glocks are this way within a yr or two when they need the recoil spring replaced from rounds fired.
Dosn't seem to hurt anything, my G19 has been single ended for arround 15000 rnds or so , no probs.
but I do like to put the closed loop end of the metal recoil spring towards the bbl locking block. The flat spring end gives better support all the way arround the flat washer end so I waht it on the locking block end, And the cut off spring end out at the slide end..

Hi,
The Original Glock recoil springs were non captured, this might have the original guide and spring. They went to the captured spring as a later thought-so did a lot of other guns(H&K might of done this first as a standard item). It will work fine until you decide to change it, yes it's plastic-normaly they put the new captured spring on it on a re-furb.
Don't sweat the small stuff, if the gun works enjoy it!!
Take Care
Mike
