Hi All,

Here's my dilemna. I already have a partial hearing loss (not shooting realted). I currently use Peltor Tactical 6s electronic muffs, and double plug when shooting indoors. Even though I know they don't provide the same level of protection that some of the non-electronic models do, I fund them acceptable for me. I also need to be able to hear and converse many times while I'm shooting and/or training, and I simply do not want to remove my hearing protection to hear conversation while on the range. I find that double plugging and turning up the volume does the job.

Are there any studies out here in the shooting community with recommendations/guidelines regarding hearing protection? Would the above configuration place me at risk for further hearing loss? I do not feel that I'm exposing my self to dangerous noise levels with this configuration (everything is well muffled to me).

The other part of this post deals with eye protection, and specifically how it integrates with ear muffs. Most people I see out there tend to allow the arms on their glasses interfere with their muffs, thus, breaking the seal and diminishing the effectiveness of their hearing protection. I always make sure my eye protection arms are above the muffs, but this creates a forward cant on the top of the shooting glasses. I've had two instances where hot brass has bounced off a barracade, and come down in through the top of my glasses. Man, does that ever sting! Does anyone know of some quality shooting glasses that have arms that are specifically designed for shooting with muffs on, thus, retaining the proper alignment of the top of the glasses?
