Hey Rhino,

I'm posting this just so you have someone else posting to this thread.

Saturday October 23
Marion County Fish & Game, Indianapolis

If its not raining (yeah right) we'll shoot bowling pins.

Since it will be raining, we'll set up the oldMan's falling plates
and shoot some steel from under the lid.

Starts at 9am, we'll be setting up at 8:30 or so.

So, its not just your personal arena now, Rhino

LOL

UPDATE on the USPSA Pistol Match at AtlantaCC ...

We don't know right now whether or not we'll be able to have a match on Sunday (09JAN05). The range has flooding problems, Atlanta is in the middle of where it's kind of bad right now.

I hope to know for sure by Saturday, but keep checking the AtlantaCC (http://www.atlantacc.net) web site in the IPSC forum for updates. If you're driving more than half an hour or so, be advised that you need to confirm the match is on or you may be out of luck (and standing in knee deep water!).

MATCH IS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

To all AtlantaCC members, shooters, friends, and associates:

It is with significant regret that I have to announce that our first regular 3-Gun match of the year (23JAN05) has been CANCELLED due to the weather.

Steve N. and I have discussed the situation, and given our usual low turnout and the forecast, it doesn't make much sense to try to hold an actual match.

On the other hand, we are considering having an informal "practice session" on Sunday morning if anyone is interested. We'll probably set-up some steel and blast it with our shotguns until we get tired of doing it, then maybe set-up some paper targets and do some rifle shooting.

Please let us know via e-mail if you plan to join us. If no one else wants to do it, we may not do it and won't unlock the gate if we actually do go and shoot for a while.

Steel Matches at ACC for 2005 generally will be held on the THIRD Saturday of each month. The March match is on the 19th.

The format of the matches closely follows that of the Steel Challenge Shooters Association (SCSA). For 2005, each match will have four stages, (one stage fills a shooting bay). Each stage has five steel targets, which are engaged in various sequences, but the STOP plate always ends the string. Each string starts with a buzzer from an electronic timer, and ends when you HIT the stop plate. You will usually shoot 5 strings; we drop the string with the worst time, and the total of the best four are your score for that stage. Your total for the four stages equals your match score. Fastest time wins !!!

Changes for 2005:

1. A new category, the “FUN” class, for new shooters, kids, trying out a new gun, or just if you don’t want the pressure of being timed.

2. Four stages instead of five. The fifth stage was always a “leftovers” stage, due to the number of targets available. We may go back to five if we get some new targets.

3. Paint targets only if necessary to see them better. I think this will make the match go way faster.

4. Slightly adjusted start times.

Categories for 2005 will be:

Production; Double action and “Safe action” GLOCK, Beretta 92, SIG 229, 226 . . .

Limited; Single action 1911’s with open sights, no compensators

Open; Anything goes (semi-automatic)

Carbine; PISTOL calibers, any sights

Rimfire; .22LR, any sights

Revolver; for all revolvers, Cowboy Action included

GSSF; (Go Shoot Steel Fast) Like Production, but WITHOUT the holster, starts from low-ready - Doesn't HAVE to be a GLOCK, but can be . . .

Fun; ANY handgun you want, but NO TIME HAS TO BE RECORDED

$10 First gun, $5 each additional gun.

You will need a minimum of 120 rounds per gun. I bring 200.

Start times are:

7:00 Set-Up

9:00 Sign-Up

9:30 Listen-Up

10:00 Load-Up, then Bang & Clang !!!

12:00 +/- Clean-Up

For more information – see: WWW.atlantacc.net and/or

Deer Creek Conservation Club, Jonesboro Indiana will have a Run and Gun shooting match May 1st.

This is an "Open to the Public" match.

This match is for pistol caliber carbines and 22lr, like Ruger 10/22.

And, it will have a shotgun stage, 25 rounds.

Setup is at 8am, sign up is at 9am and shooting starts at 10am.

Run and gun is kind of like IPSC with carbines.

Here's how to get there:

FROM I-69 GO TO THE 55 MILE MARKER GO WEST ABOUT 2.5 MILES TO COUNTY ROAD 350-E THEN NORTH TO END OF ROAD. RIGHT 1/4 MILE THEN LEFT YOU THERE.

FROM STATE ROAD 31 EAST ON STATE ROAD 26 THROUGH FAIRMOUNT ON EAST TO COUNTY ROAD 350-E NORTH TO END OF ROAD. RIGHT 1/4 MILE THEN LEFT YOU ARE THERE.

Hey...that was the other day. Seemed cold. How did it go?

rhino465
12-06-2005, 22:25
It was a wee bit chilly, although I am sure it was over 20F most of the time! It was a good match, but we ran late because of the multi-gun stages and decided to drop the last stage (pistol only).

I almost "won" my first club match too. I was second in the unofficial combined aggregate and first in tactical. Steve N. did not have a good day (he always wins the 3-Guns shooting limited), and I did pretty well with rifle and made few mistakes than usual with shotgun. So I came close to finally placing at the top ... hah!

On pistol, well ... that's why I didn't "win." On the stage with shotgun and pistol, I had my glove on my left hand to prevent burnage during reloads. I also was wearing an untucked flannel shirt (it was chilly), which I forgot to either tuck, unbutton, or lift the shirt when I went for my mags during reloads. When I did my first reload, the glove kept me from noticing that I had grabbed the mag through the shirt tail, so then I had to sort of roll the mag out of my shirt before I could get it free and into the gun. Then I did the exact same thing again. Those two gaffs cost significant time!

I also did a lot of scoring my targets as I shot them. Standard procedure for me! ;f

Flexmoney
12-06-2005, 23:12
I'm cold just thinkning about it.

I feel you pain...loading shirt...mag...glove... It seems some of that stuff doesn't like to fit into themagwell.

rhino465
12-07-2005, 09:53
At least I didn't get my tighty-whities tangled into that mess. Had I successfully completed a reload, it would have been the Mother of All Wedgies. ;f

I think the cold weather is good for ol' Joey. Everyone else seems to slow down a bit, but I like it better. I certainly do better in the cold than in the summer heat! Maybe we should have separate classifications for different weather conditions?

Rhino -

Thanks for the Steel Match update !

There will be FOUR challenging stages, two of them from official Steel Challenge steups, and two from the depths of my devious little brain . . . though I will try not to repeat A-Zone Hell . . .

$10 for your first gun/entry.
$5 for each additional gun.

Non-magnum pistol cartridges only.

Having 5 magazines helps, but is not absolutely gequired.

I have divisions for just about everything and anybody:
Open
Limited
Production
Revolver
.22 Pistol
.22 Rifle
CF carbine (pistol ctg)
GSSF (low ready start)
Fun (no score kept)

Typically the best 4 of 5 runs at each stage = stage time.
Total of stage times becomes score . . . Lowest score wins.

Recognition for Seniors, Juniors, Ladies, Challenged.

See www.atlantacc.net for more info.

Hi Rhino... I'm "horning" in on the thread ...

Bowling Pin Match (http://home.comcast.net/~browndog2/bowlingpin.html)

Marion County Fish & Game (http://www.indyrange.com)
Saturday, March 25th.
Set-up begins about 8:00 a.m. ... or whenever everyone finally gets motivated.
Shooting begins around 8:30 a.m. ... or whenever we finally get our >$*! together ;) .
Shooting ends around noon ... or whenever the old man starts hollering "It's time for lunch!"
(I will more than likely pay for that last comment on Saturday :outtahere: )

How many folks show up? ... Depends, we've had anywhere from 12 to near 30.
Can you arrive alone? ... Sure can! Or you can bring a friend.
Can you bring your cheapy Kel-Tec w/o any laughter? ... Sure, as long as you don't laugh at my bad shooting. ;)

Come on out. If you try it once you try it you will be hooked.

Besides it doesn't cost anything to come out and watch.

My dad is coming on Sat. to shoot this time (he loaded up some 157gr. .357mag loads), plus I think I got my FTFeed issue with my handloads figured out (used the Lee factory crimp die instead of the seat/crimp die).

I hope none as I am moving after the pin shoot.

When it rains they shoot plates under the roof like thingy (the word escapes right now  ).

Good question. If it's snow, I'd say we're still a go unless the roads are closed.

Rain might be trickier since it makes things a lot more messy.

If there is a cancellation, I'll send and e-mail announcement as soon as possible and I'll try to remember to post here and on AR15.com too.

Best bet is that set-up will happen and match will happen.

Even though the "old man" is off shooting a glock match somewhere,
we'll shoot his steel plate rack from under the lid, IF weather conditions
prevent a pin shoot.

He left the necessary parts in the shed in case we need them.
Darn nice of him, sez I.

April 1st we will be changing the set up from two to four tables.
We hope it will speed up the matches
and shorten the time waiting around telling lies.

Just wanted to say lots of fun at today's shoot. My first.

A little cold.

I'll remember to bring plenty of 147grain ammo next time. Those 115s don't persuade the bowling pins, too much.

I will look around and see who else I can bring with me next time.

I think I won the 3" barrel category! :) (being the only one)

Thanks for the invite.

Nice place you guys have there.

FThorn,

Glad you made it out to play.
It was cold.
I think you did remarkably well with
such a short barrelled pistol.
Yes, a heavier bullet will help.
As usual my problem was with the connection
between the ground and the trigger.

Glad you had fun.

This is a reminder for our BERM AID I (http://www.wvpps.com) USPSA Pistol Match this coming Sunday (30APR06) at the Riley Conservation Club near Terre Haute. In addition to the trophies we're awarding to the winners, we've also received a lot of great prizes from some very generous sponsors (including a certificate for a S&W M&P pistol!). We'll have seven great stages, which is a bargain at $40 for the entry fee. Don't forget that the proceeds will help us pay for the recent range improvements we've made. If you haven't visited the Riley Conservation Club recently, you're in for a surprise!

Also, don't forget that if you can't make it on Sunday, we can accomodate you on Saturday (29APR06) with some prior notice.

Finally, remember that as per USPSA rules, we operate our matches under a "cold range." That means all guns have to be unloaded (chamber empty, no magazine, hammer down) and either in the holster or case while on the premises. For further explanation of all range safety rules, visit the USPSA web site (http://www.uspsa.org) and check the current rule book.

Thanks!

rhino465
02-21-2007, 11:26
I will!

We tried to do them all winter, but the weather got in our way. This weekend, flooding and mud will make the range unusable, especially for parking, so no match this month.

Hopefully we'll be in business again in March.

NOTICE: 2007 USPSA INDIANA SECTION MATCH & STATE CHAMPIONSHIP (http://www.wvpps.com/DefaultStateMatch.htm) has been moved to the Atlanta Conservation Club.

The host club (Wabash Valley Practical Pistol Shooters) for the 2007 Indiana Section Championship was notified last week that the land surrounding and partially encompassing our shooting range will be placed on the market for sale. This creates a great deal of uncertainty as to the status of our range for our match in June. Therefore, the match will be moved to the Atlanta Conservation Club in Atlanta, Indiana, site of both the 2004 and 2005 section championships. We are grateful to our friends at ACC for their willingness to accomodate the match. For further information regarding this unpleasant situation, go to http://www.wvpps.com.

Besides the change of location, the move will cause two other changes. First, in order to be in compliance with ACC's agreement with neighboring homes, a slight adjustment in squad times has been made. Second, we will be able to add an additional stage! The original eight stages have been approved by NROI. We will submit the additional stage in the next day or two and will publish the match stages shortly thereafter.

All competitors who have submitted applications for the match will have the opportunity to withdraw from the match and receive a full refund if the change of location adversely affects their ability to attend the match. Since the new location is just two hours from the original location, we hope this will not be the case.

The change has caused the organizational team to retrace our steps in planning the match. We are working on identifying a new match hotel in the Atlanta area. We will post notification here when that process is complete.

Updated information can be found at our match website: http://www.wvpps.com/DefaultStateMatch.htm.

ICORE July 1st

Our second ICORE match of the year is coming up at Wildcat Valley near Brookston, IN this Sunday, July 1.

Match details for Sunday.

Six challenging COF's including two with movers and two ICORE classifiers. Round count is 103 but I would highly recommend bringing lots more. The match is a nice mix of stationary marksmanship and "RUN and GUN". If you even think you might want to shoot the match and you are not on my email list, contact me at idpashooter1@hotmail.com so I can add you. July weather in Indiana is unpredictable and I will send out an announcement very early on Sunday if we need to cancel for rain.

Setup: 7.30
Registration: Approx 9:30
Shooters Meeting 9:45
Hammer Down at 10:00
All times are nominal pending completion of setup.

Match fee $15 and exact change is appreciated. $100 and $50 bills will be considered donations to the match director.

NEW SHOOTERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. YOU WILL NEED A SAFE FIREARM AND HOLSTER PLUS 5 SPEEDLOADERS OR VERY NIMBLE FINGERS. If you need to borrow some equipment, let me know and I can help out.

Bring you own refreshments and food as necessary.

I NEED HELP. If you make a significant contribution to setup, officiating and teardown, you shoot for free. Let me know if you can help.

I promise this to be one of my best matches and hope you can participate.

Sorry if you were one of the 3 gung-ho Steel Shooters, but 12 degrees, FALLING to -5 degrees, just does NOT sound like a fun time to me.

0 for 1 in 2008. Maybe February will be better !!!

To be absolutely clear :: The Steel Challenge match at Atlanta Conservation Club scheduled for 19 JA 2008 has been CANCELLED.

Lol...Pretty much the only place to shoot besides pops guns, I too have been looking for somewhere else to shoot besides there. That place is kinda scary, I think someone told me the other day that one of the sales men shot him self in the leg or foot, not properly checking a firearm and it was loaded. There are a couple of places up nort in New Castle, but thats a drive from indy.

Rhino above mentioned www.indygunracers.com (http://indygunracers.com)

Since I am the man in charge there I thought I'd drop a note. The Pistol (http://indygunracers.com/Pistol1.html) page on the site gives a overview of the major action handgun competitions going regularly in the state. On the main page, which I update weekly, generally on Thursdays, I run down everything action related, which includes USPSA, IDPA, Steel Challenge, ICORE, 3/multi-gun, bowling pins and whatever anyone else wants to tell me about. Lastly, after I update the main page, I do send out an announcement e-mail, letting folks know that the upcoming weekend's activities are listed.

So, if you're interested in Indiana action shooting, please stop by and take a look around my site. Thanks!

How about Marion County Fish and Game on 136?

I heard they redid the place, but I've never been there. I live in Bloomington, so it's probably the best place for me to go.

I'm also curious about the indoor range at Popguns. Any input? Thanks.

I live near Bloomington and shoot at the Martinsville range. It's a nice range, but they only open up membership once a year.

Pops is a decent indoor range. If you shoot allot get a membership. Not only is it cheaper, but you also get to jump ahead of non-members waiting to shoot.

Full name --
State of residence --
Division(s) entered --
Gun to be used - for each division --
Special Recognition categories -- (Please state NO S.R. if none apply.)
RO/Volunteer -- or Normal Entry --

I will figure up how much money you will need for entry fees on October
17th, and send you a confirmation e-mail.

YOU CAN ENTER ANY NUMBER OF DIVISIONS --- AS LONG AS THE HOLSTERING DOES NOT
CLASH.
The holster is the key to the whole second gun thing. If your second entry
is holster-less -- GSSF, any (or all) of the .22 divisions, carbine, etc,
then you are all set. For that matter, if you shot, say, Revolver
Right-handed and Limited Left-handed -- that would work from my perspective,
which is to keep the match moving. (I doubt that particular scenario would
happen, but if you are ambidextrous and want to try it, I am not going to
prohibit it.)

STAGES ::
8 stages. All SCSA.

ROUND COUNT ::
200 (well, 195) for a 'clean' match. Bring 300 to 400 per gun to have
plenty of ammo.

PRIZES ::
Plaques for winners of each Division, Smaller plaques for 2nd and 3rd in
some divisions.
There may be a prize for the overall lowest time of the match (ANY semi-auto
gun).
Special recognition plaques for :: Senior (55-64), Super Senior (65+),
Junior (17 and younger), Female, and Challenger. These will be determined
by relative finish WITHIN division. E.g. 3rd in a division of 10 = 0.3 and
2nd in a division of 4 = 0.5 --- the 3rd place shooter is the winner of
special recognition.
Drawings for merchandise prizes will be administered by Jeff Brown. Each
entry will receive tickets ( # tbd ) that the shooter places in jars
corresponding to each prize. Random draw from the tickets placed in the
jars determines the winners. Merchandise prizes will NOT be awarded for
performance this year.

NOTE ::
ACC IS A COLD RANGE. DO NOT "GUN-UP" IN, OR AT, YOUR CAR --- USE THE SAFE
AREAS, PREFERABLY WITH AN R.O., OR JUST WAIT UNTIL THE FIRST STAGE.
You can load magazines anywhere EXCEPT THE SAFE AREAS :: but DO NOT remove
your gun from its box or bag until you are on the line, ready to compete.
(Or you are at one of the SAFE AREAS, with an R.O. :: For example - if you
need to verify function, or clean something.)

[Posted on behalf of ACC IDPA]

Greetings,

We will be hosting our regularly scheduled IDPA match at Atlanta Conservation Club this Saturday, August 6th. If you are planning on attending, please read this announcement in entirety. You can check for updates on the match at www.indyidpa.com. In the event we have to cancel due to weather, we will post something by 0600 on Saturday. This match promises to be challenging and lots of fun. I hope you can join us. We work really hard at designing matches within the spirit of IDPA.

The IDPA membership policy goes into effect with this match. That means if you have ever shot an IDPA match with us, you will need to be a current, paid up IDPA member and we will check membership cards. A printed verification of membership from the IDPA website will be sufficent. You can join IDPA at www.idpa.com. We will accept a copy of the online transaction as proof of membership. Let us know if there are any questions.

MANDATORY NEW SHOOTER ORIENTATION-NO EXCEPTIONS: We welcome new shooters but we do require they attend our new shooter orientation. The meeting will start promptly at 0900. PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL.

The match will consist of 5-8 COF's with a round count around 70- 80. I recommend you bring twice as much. Courses of fire will be viewable on the website by 1800 Thursday evening.

ACC is a cold range on match day. That means no gun handling except in designated safe areas or as directed on the firing line by your safety officer. There is no ammunition handling in the safe area unless you arrive with a CCW and then you may only do so under direct supervison of a safety officer. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER TO THIS RULE.

The usual brass policy applies which means you can pick up as much as you want for 15 minutes after tear down is complete. COMPLETE MEANS ALL EQUIPMENT IS STOWED IN THE BARN. We have had some violations of this rule recently so I am going to ask our safety officers to be vigilant and take corrective action if necessary.

Everyone is expected to assist with scorekeeping, pasting targets, and with teardown unless a physical disability prevents you from doing so.

We need help with officiating and setup. You can shoot for a discounted or even waived match fee depending on how much you want to help.
To receive a discounted match fee, YOU MUST RSVP AND SHOW UP BY 0800 SHARP TO RECEIVE A DISCOUNT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

We will plan on meeting at the pole barn at 0800 on Saturday, split into groups, and complete our setup. If you show up really early, I may not have anything for you to do except maybe cleaning the restrooms or clearing trash out of the barn until I get organized. I REALLY NEED SOME SHOOTERS TO TAKE THESE TASKS ON. I appreciate any offer to help, but please let Joe and I get organized if you show up early.

Details:

Setup 0800
New shooter orientation 0900
Registration starts 0900
Registration closes 0945 (no late registration permitted)
Safety briefing 0945
Shots fired 1000
Match fee = $15

Hope to see you on Saturday,
