I only see threads about pistols, doesn't anybody like H&K rifles?
I have a couple, just don't have time to shoot them.

Sure! Lots of people like HK long guns. I suspect, since this is primarily a Glock message board, and since Glock only makes pistols, then most people who visit here already have only pistols in mind. I recognize several posters here who also post over at HKPRO, where the long-gun forum usually has the most posts.

Obviously, you never look into the High Power Club, which is ALL rifles and shotguns...... there is currently a post on the HK91 clone PTR91 in there going now.

Obviously??;Q
I go to the high power club fairly often (when I can find it among all the other clubs), but there are rarely any posts about the type of rifles I like, mostly black guns. Since there is a forum for Ak's and one for AR's, I figured that the H&K forum would be the correct place to see if anyone had an interest in H&K rifles.
And what is a PTR, another Cetme knock off slapped together by the monkeys at Century?

CZ, I like HK pro, but they are a bit dry at times.

Actually, PTRs are excellent 91 clones. They had QC issues in their first lots, but they seem to have fixed that. And they have been very good about fixing the issues they had in the first lots free of charge.

I would recommend one as an inexpensive .308 battle rifle.

Unfortunately there weren't a lot of people owning HK combat rifles and the typical black rifle owner prefers a dolled up Mattel Toy.

And let's face it, the SL8 is not exactly a desirable version of the G36. I would definitely love to pick up a semiauto G36, or even a semiauto HKM4 even though it looks like Mattel's Special.

Vector Arms seems to have a couple of decent HK53 and HK33 clones, but I don't have any real experience with them, or have heard a lot of reports on them.

Now that I think about it, I have heard something about the PTR somewhere. Aren't they using Portugese parts?

FN I heard some bad stuff about the Vector stuff when thy first came out, don't know if they got any better. I may be incorrect, but I believe that Vector used to be Special Weapons.
These guys are building some really nice guns and they are using the receivers from Vector, but they do a lot of work to them. Check out their FAL section. I bought one from them, they are really nice, and a good price.

Guess I have always been a bit of an H&K purist (snob), but if I can get the same quality for a cheaper price, what the heck?
I am really considering picking up the Rapid Fire HK93. Always been one of my favorites, just didn't want to spend $2500 for one.

I plan on buying a RF53 sometime next Spring. Todd Grove from Ohio Rapid Fire has a pretty good reputation from what I can tell, and he has been very helpful to me on the phone.

He is a Class 3 dealer, and I believe is also qualified to manufacture NFA items (I canb nevr remeber what code that is... 01? 02? 07?)

Anyway, he is handling a few Form 4 transfers for me, and will help me set up the qualified sear I'm buying in my SW5.

I plan on getting a RF53 SBR'd from him, and using him to SBR my SW5.

I can't wait to have a registerd sear that I can use in either: SBR SW5, SBR RF53 or my Century G3. It's expensive, but I just gottsta do it!

Personally, I don't care all that much for the HK91. While mine is accurate and reliable, it's ergonomics are terrible. First is the handguards. The thin ones allow too much heat to come through to your hand. Moving on the the charging handle, I think it's awkward to use when you first have to unflold it to cam the bolt open. Combine that with no bolt hold open device and it's slow to reload compared to an M-14 or FAL. Moving back, the magazine release is way too far forward and civilian HK91 rifles lack the lever the G-3 rifles have so again, it's slower to reload. Moving on to the trigger, yeah, you can get replacement trigger packs but the stock trigger is WAY too heavy fo the accurcy it's capabible of. Moving on to the safety lever, again, like the magazine release, it's too far forward making it impossible to manipluate without shifting your grip or sprouting an extra long thumb. Now to the rear sights, you need a special tool to adjust your initial zero. The stock is too short for American style shooting and it whacks my cheek bone every time I get my head down on the stock shooting American style. The recoil is sharper than the M-14 or FAL and while it comes apart easy enough, it's a PITA to put the bolt head back on. If you're a reloader, forget it. Yes, the fluted chamber marks on the brass aren't a problem but finding your used brass again is another matter! That thing chucks them into the next time zone!
No, when I want to go shooting, I tend to stick to my FALs and M-14s. My HK generally stays at home. :(

The Ohio Rapid Fire HK33 clone looks good but at $1300 a piece, that's kind of steep. An Arizona Response Systems FAL clone goes for around $1300, but it throws out a bigger bullet. $1300 is a lot for a mix 'n match mousegun.

USMC03GRUNT,

You are correct in your assessment of the HK91's ergonomic flaws. However, I'd put up with it just because it's built like a tank and reliable as hell.

Rapid Fire has various prices on their FAL's. I picked up my Stg for around $675 a couple of years ago. It is on par with a DSA. Todd is a good guy and they have lots of cool toys.

The 33 is pretty high, but I have been waiting on a decent deal on a HK93 for years. They don't get below $2000 very often.

I agree that the 91 wouldn't be my first choice of a battle rifle, but I think one should be part of every good collection. Besides, I am to old to have to worry about humping a rifle around.
