Almost every shooting incident people on GT hear enough information about they like to break down and analyze, try to figure out what worked for the people involved, what they did wrong, what they did right. There is even more "what if" type discusions though, with people coming up with scenerios that range from elaborate to very simple, just to have somethign to think about.

Well I thought there are quite a few scenerios such as this in movies. Not James Bond or Rambo or Die Hard or anything remotely similar, but a few movies such as Heat or Man on Fire. I don't mean to sound stupid, but couldn't it help you visualize some scenerios?

A while ago someone started a thread about what he should do if someone was trying to kidnap his daughter. In Man Fire he had to deal with a kidnapping. Could he have acted differantly? In Heat sveral officers are shot trying to stop bank robbers. Could they have responded differantly?

I'm not an expert so I'm asking if anyone thinks that studying fictional events has any merit? No, I'm not some wannabe commando who gets all his knowledge watching movies, but sometimes you see something that makes you think.

Yeah..... watch The Way of the Gun. Excellent tactics and real world reloads, etc (the brother of the director was a SEAL and trained the actors), but they also made a lot of mistakes that they paid for (some of them fatally) such as popping up in the same spot more than twice, not carrying enough ammo, in one guy's case diving headfirst into a dry fountain (which turned out to have a ton of broken glass bottles in it), and Benicio Del Toro, when hit, went full auto shooting through a wall trying to hit the shooter, which burned off one or two mags he could have used later (he only had four or five to start with) when he was down to a .45.

The acting isn't the greatest but the situations are interesting for "what if". Early in the movie and at the end, some excellent "pair tactics" demonstrations by the two main actors, in communication, movement, etc. I've heard the movie called "Shooting Instructor Porn" cause they mainly "get things right".

You can pick it up sometimes for like $5 on VHS.
