View Full Version : 80's Music Is Back!!!
There's a ton of 80's music making a comeback. Even Brittney Spears has ripped off the only hit Bobby Brown ever had as a solo artist.
My favorite right now is Korn's version of "Word Up" formerly by Cameo. The very first time I heard it I was rocking!
For some of us it never left... ;g ;c

And for some of us it was never there. Not to much music I really got into in the 80's. Slow decade for music in my opinion.
THere was some really bad music that came out of the 80's,but I also think some good things came out as well....
Industrial metal (Killing JoKe,Prong....)
Decent Mainstream punk (The Clash,Dead Kennedys,DRI,etc)
British Metal (Priest,Maiden,Ozzy)
Garage style "alternative" music was building a cult following-being a Seattlelite,I'm thinking Mudhoney,Soundgarden,Motherlovebone,Green River,Nirvana-they didn't explode till the 90's,but they were popular here in the late 80's.
Speed metal (Slayer,Metallica) ascended to popularity.
Black metal started up in the UK with Venom, spreading to Sweden and Norway with Bathory and Mayhem....
So,it wasn't all bad.;f
Late 70s, 80s is my favorite musical decade.
From the birth of UK punk spawned by the American influence of the Ramones, to the rise of sophisticated bands with accomplished vocalists and musicians like Ultravox, and the punk, new wave, electrofunk, techno, reggae, ska and combinations thereof that flourished, not to mention some good ol' rock n' roll, the 80s had it all.
Music today is typified by whiney, cracky voiced female vocalists, some rare decent post grunge, and funkless crappy rap and hip hop that would make Bootsy barf.
I could never stomach the many talentless hairbands that sprouted like noxious weeds during the 80's and on into the 90's.
Glam-rocking pinkofag dips hits with no skill or aptitude for the job should never get record contracts. Lipstick, eye shadow and hairspray do not a musician make!!
Not to say that no good music came from that period, and even some bad singers had the occasional hits that deserve respect.
"She Bop", by Cyndi Lauper...NOT. "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper...not too bad at all. See what I mean?
But it seems that most of my favorite music of that era was performed by One-Hit Wonders like After The Fire (Der Komissar) and Nena (99 Red Balloons) or even Peter Schilling (Major Tom).
Some of the best music from Yes, Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Ted Nugent was released during this period as well.
Ah, well, maybe there's not much nostalgia for the '80's in me... I can say that Men At Work was all right, so perhaps that counts! :)
by One-Hit Wonders like After The Fire (Der Komissar)
Falco's version kicked this wimpy versions ARSE!!!!!!:) :) ;a ;g ;c
More seriously, for the most part, the music that became popular in the 80's due to the rising popularity of MTV absolutely sucked. It was so bad, it made me sell my guitars and amps.
HOWEVER,I think one all-time classic rock and roll album and two of my personal top ten all time albums came out in the 80's. They are;
(personal faves) The Del Fuegos "Longest Day" the coolest garage band sound.
The Blasters "The Blasters" American Music, at it's best
And the all-time classic The Violent Femmes "Violent Femmes" absolutely timeless.
Huge fan of early 80's (or really late 70's) Punk as well as New Wave (80 to 85) and Alternative (85 to 90). The Clash has been a big favorite for many, many years. "London Calling" has my vote for greatest Album of All Time. REM (Chronic Town thru Documet) was another big fav. That was just an all-around great time for cool music and, hey, MTV actually had music on it...

you're dreaming!! Falco's version sucked, even though he DID write it.
ATF's version is one of THE songs that sums up the 80's hits for me.
