i'm curious for input from those who have owned/shot both. i have the full size USP .45, and i love it, but lately the tactical model has been growing on me. the threaded barrel, the o-ring, match trigger, etc. so i have been thinking about trading or selling my USP and getting the tactical model.

is there a noticeable difference between the two in shooting them? i'm sure both are more accurate than i am.

any other differences i should note?

the only differance you'll notice is the adj rear sight and the treaded barrel is that worth the extra 200-300 in a trade deal to you?

honestly, probably not. i think the reason i have this itch is because the tactical has things my gun doesn't. the threaded barrel, the match trigger, the adjustable sights.

i think this is mostly a case of me wanting the tactical because of the 'lack' of these things on my gun. i love my usp and there's not a thing wrong with it, but i do think i will at least look into installing the match trigger.

you can get a o ringed threaded barrel from Jarvis I think

I have both the fullsize & Tactical in .45

The match trigger has a lighter trigger break.
The O-ring makes for a lower felt recoil.

On the match trigger. Only the overtravel screw that goes through the back of the trigger is adjustable.

LGCubana, do you have a preference for one gun over the other?

i guess the other option would be to install the match trigger in my gun. that's the main thing i want.

I just p/u the Tactical last week. W/O a doubt, the Tactical wins for range use. The regular fullsize is my home defense weapon of choice, so it has night sights on it. Plus it's a 2 tone model.

do you think the tactical is too cumbersome for home defense? of course with either gun, i'm not concerned too much with carry, that's what my g32 is for.

I guess we have differant mindsets on what to use for home defense. Because I can't fathom what would B cumbersome about using a fullsize weapon in a scenario where U don't have to conceal it.

@ night I keep the USPf in a nylon shoulder rig, w/2 mags. That's 37 rounds of .45

List your concerns & I'll try to address them.

well, i don't really think it would be a problem, i was just asking since you said your USPf was for the home defense. i was thinking maybe you considered the tactical cumbersome to grab and stand ready in the night, coming out of a slumber.

to me, the full size actually is smaller than i expected, so i think the tactical will be fine.

my biggest issue is the trigger. any input you have on trigger differences between the two guns, i'd love to hear.

The USPf was purchased specifically for H.D.
Prior to the AWB expiration I was using my Glock 30 for H.D. The day that I was able to get the USP 12 rounders, the Glock was retired to range use. The USPf already has new Night sights on it. The Tactical has the standard (for the Tactical) adjustable target sights on it. I don't plan on putting night sights on the Tactical because (in my mind) it would make the 2 guns redundant.
I find that the fullsize is easier to shoot than my USPc's. So my logic is that for SHTF scenarios, the fullsize will B easier to handle in the middle of the night.

On the match trigger. I find the differance to B appreciable. Especially on the lighter trigger break. As U probably know the HK's R a bear to detail strip. Almost every posting that I've read recommends a certified gunsmith to install the match trigger.

The O-ring can not be discounted either. That little thing works magic.

I had a CCF O-ring barrel on order, when I was lucky enough to p/u a used Tactical locally. So I eat Rommaine noodles for a few months to afford the Tac ;g

In the end, I'm happy.

Sidenote: I don't know if UR aware of this, but the Fullsize & the Tactical R the same basic gun. H&K just took a F.S. & added the goodies.

thanks, that helps.

yes, i did know that the full size and the tactical were the same gun, more or less. i just didn't realize the tactical existed at the time i got my full size. i thought after the full size came the mark 23, which i think would be too big for my purposes, though i would like to have the extras that the tactical offers.

i wasn't planning on doing the trigger job myself, and that's a large part of the reason i got to thinking about the trade.

i have my full size sold to a local glocktalker, so when my permits are approved next week, it's off to see the wizard, and come home with a tactical.

what did you pay for yours, if you don't mind me asking? so far, the best i have been able to get at local shops is $955 plus tax and that would be with the 12 round mags.

I paid less. But mine was used. C If U can get them to come down closer to $900. If it's NIB w/2 12 rounders, $955 is a so-so price.

they are both excellent guns.
but the tac has better sights, match trigger, and o-ring/threaded barrel.

you could get a usp 45 and have a match trigger kit installed.

Shot my Tactical for the very first time tonight and was blown away!!! Picked it up used for $850 shipped with a 10rd and 12rd mag and than 3 more 12rders for $150 the pistol also came with MMC adj night sights and a Vortex flash supressor included for the $850. The match trigger was a bit nicer than my full size USP and felt recoil was close to nothing at all, but not sure if that was the o-ring or the Vortex. I did not think I would come across a gun more accurate out of the box 1st time shooting than my G30 but I did! Easily knocked out the center of the target at 21yds with my very 1st 13rds and very little effort on my end...

i considered that, but had i know the tactical existed when i bought the USPf, i would have gone for the tactical instead. after getting the match trigger and dropping in a threaded barrel, i would have spent the money for the tactical anyway.
