It's interesting that they did a Star Wars book, but it's a good one. Most of the Star Wars books are entertaining but not too accurate when it comes to portrayals of war. These two dudes fixed that issue.:)

I'm interested in the Star Wars novels, but a bit confused where to start. Is there any continuity between the various series? Which should I start with?

Yes, they are all continous. Find one, look at the "book list". It'll have a "history" timeline, denoting major events, and listing the title of every book and where it falls in the timeline. It should be just inside the cover on a paperback, or on a hardcover, front-and-back covers just inside.
