The list is from AR15.com's Georgia forum, the list is a little old, so call before you drive a couple hours into the middle of nowhere.

Bookhound, the GA mod of the forum, said we should have a combined Glock & AR shoot sometime. Springtime anyone?

Also, be sure to check out the GA Department of Natural Resources website for public (free) range info. Charlie Elliot near Conyers is a great outdoor range.

They're not there any more. They moved somewhere south of Atlanta, I just don't remember just where at the moment.

The Georgia DNR has a number of firearms and archery ranges scatteded around the state that are free of charge. Most are well kept however some of the users aren't too tidy at times. Generally a good group of folks using the ones I am familiar with. The link is http://georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=121&txtPage=2

This is The Firing Lane.

There is also another that I prefer when the weather permits -

The Athens Rifle Club - It's a private range on the North side of town at Commerce and Paradise with 50 yd pistol, 100+ yd rifle, trap and sheet field.

It's off GA 400 Exit 13 (SR141). It's little bit west of Hwy 9. I stopped by while their range was still under construction. It seemed pretty nice. However, I have yet to try it out due to some (what seem to me) overly strict range rules (http://www.bullseyemarksman.com/range_rules_and_fees.html).

No loaded firearms are to enter or exit the building. All magazines and speed loaders must be unloaded. Load firearms at the firing line only. No firearms are permitted in the store area without being in a locked container.
Wearing or drawing from holster is not permitted.
No fast or rapid firing allowed. Allow at least 3 seconds between shots.

This may just be a new gun club's way of separating the wheat from the chaff, but I've even called to confirm these rules and they emphatically stated "no exceptions". Sorry, but I like my gun store to be friendly to CCW and to allow me to practice the things that I go to a range to practice. American Classic Marksman is still not that far of a drive.

They just had their 1st anniv. GREAT facility, friendly, knowledgeable staff. I'm a regular there and love it.

Jefferante: I've never had anyone there say anything to me about not waiting 3 secs between shots, even with my wife emptying her G19 as fast as she can.

Any in Atlanta area?
Saw one in the Norcross area but those guys have been rude to me and my friend. (Funny thing, we're both in early 20's and they are very friendly to the older crowd)

Looking for a good range since my department's range is a bit farther than I want to travel for casual practice.

Usually just pistols, but the friend likes to break out his M1 once in a while.

Live in Norcross (Just moved to Georgia so unfamiliar with neighboring counties/cities), so was hoping to not have to drive a huge amount of distance.

I don't like going to that one either. They always ignore poeople who are in the store, and can be rude at times.

From Norcross you can go to Bullseye Marksman (www.bullseyemarksman.com) in Cumming. It's about 30 minutes up Peachtree Parkway (GA 141) from there. They are a great bunch of guys. Tell them Adam sent you.

At one point they talked about moving, but never heard from them.

Their USPSA matches are now being held at the Coastal GA Gun Club, http://coastalgagunclub.com/

No Full auto but we do allow silencers and .50 BMG's, we have a 485 yard range but we're working on moving the firing line back to 600. The GSP SWAT guys come out once a year and shoot their Barrett 50's.

hey so are there any ranges in or around Thomasville. I know when I went home the last time I found out the public range they had closed down. The PD and SO have it now and it is a private range and you have to have a membership.

I am going home on block leave when I get back from Iraq in December. I need a place to go and take my son to shoot. I really dont feel like having to drive an hour or more just go do this.

boze2043 are you a member of the Little River Gun Club? I've been a member for about 2 years. It is a very nice club.

100yd rifle range, 25yd pistol range, plus a variety of Clays ranges. It is a private club. For those interested in becoming a member, here is the clubs web site for more info.

I shot 4H trap/skeet over there with a man named Ron. Cant remember his last name. I now shoot at advanced bullets very regularly on the shotgun/rigle range. Just getting in to the whole pistol order since I'm coming up on 21.

I'm a member of River Bend Gun Club. Nicest facility I have ever been associated with. Except for the plinking ranges, all of the venues are NRA Certified for National Competition, including their 600 Yard High Power Range.

Link to the site:

Paragraph from the bottom of the home page:

© 2009 River Bend Gun Club River Bend Gun Club is a members-only shooting facility located in the Southwest corner of Dawson County, Georgia. This web site is intended to serve its membership as a resource of club news and information. Those interested in joining RBGC may look for such information in the "Club Information" section of this site.

Even though it states "members-only" We can take two guests during a visit to the club.

Fullers Gun Shop in Woodbury GA has an outdoor 200yd rifle range and a 40 yard pistol/tactical range and they allow class 3 on the Tactical /pistol range.
they are about 1 hour from Atlanta Macon or Columbus. The address is 1738 upper cove rd woodbury Ga ph 706-553-2352 the range fees are $10 for 1 hour or less or $20 for mor than an hour. THey also have a few steel targets on the pistol range. they are a full service gunsmith as well and guarante 1/2min groups on their accuracy jobs. Mine will actually shoot 1/4 min. Where else can you have your gun worked on and shoot it at 200yds before you leave.

This is okay for pistols, I don't know about rifles. It's indoors so it's certainly not going to be long range.

Do you know any Marietta cops? The police range is on County Services Parkway.

I shoot at Hot Shots and buy my guns at Adventures Outdoors. I used to belong to South River but the drive is too long.

Can anyone shoot at the police range or must you be a cop?

Creekside is waaaaaay the heck out there. It was a 1:15 drive for me from Vinings/Smyrna. The range itself was decent (very muddy though and no paved road) but the range guy (early 20's?) had a serious attitude problem. Seriously, if he doesn't have anything nice to say, he should leave his customers alone. I paid my money and followed all rules but he was either really bored (nobody else was there) or just inherently an argumentitive prick.

There's a public range a little further up I-75 (same driving time though) called Chestnut Mountain.

Take exit 320 off I-75 and head WEST on Resaca Lafayette Rd/Route 136. After a few miles you'll reach the end and you'll be forced to turn either right or left. Turn RIGHT (I think it's still called Resaca Lafayette Rd/136) and go about 1000 feet and on your right side you will see a dirt road with a sign for Chestnut Mountain Rd. Take the dirt road and you'll end at the shooting range. $5 admission (in an envelope). Be honest. If not, the park rangers may check the payment box and see your car's license plate didn't pay. Then you will be in a world of pain.

I haven't tried the range in Adairsville yet.

Is there any outdoor range CLOSER to Smyrna/Vinings? I'm willing to pay for a membership but I don't want to drive more than 30 minutes. :P

Otherwise I may as well go to Chestnut Mt.

I had the same experience - I live in the same area as you do. So far the best place is South River. I was a member but it is too far and too expensive. I've gone there for IDPA.

Nice place. Kind of new. They have a pit for special training and a row of at least 10 stalls, covered from weather with electric cable target hangars.
Call for details. I'm sure there is rifle provisions also.

Does anyone know if the DeKalb County police range is still out in Lithonia and open to the public? I haven't been there in close to 15 years. Used to go with my dad about once a month when I was a kid. The only negative is its paper targets only, and 25yds is the closest range. I do like to be able to plink at tin cans, clay targets, etc. when I'm at an outdor range, paper is good for accuracy testing, but I like more interactive targets on ocassion.

Those prices seem similar to South River.

Their site doesn't tell you much about the range. Do you know how it compares to South River. I was a member of South River but the fees/driving/gas cost was getting too much for me.

There are ranges for skeet/trap and a 100yd rifle range, maybe two of those. There are a bunch of pistol bays and some action shooting setups. They said they were going to either build a new rifle range to 200yds or extend one but I can't remember.

I was there for the GSSF match recently and it was pretty nice. I've only been to south river once when I lived in conyers and I don't really remember it. I usually go to Autrey's or Georgia range and guns but I'm getting into shooting some rifles. And outdoor shooting is much more pleasant. $300 is a bunch of range visits though.

There is now a brand new indoor gun range in Douglasville.

This is the old Tactical Concepts/Wolf Creek range that burned down a while back. Anyway the building was rebuilt after it was burned down to the ground (I don’t know the cause of the fire). I have not been in there yet, only driven by, but it seems someone spend a lot of money on the facility.

Stoddard's Range and Guns

Looks like you have to purchase a yearly membership package but it starts at $199 so it doesn’t seem too bad.

On a side note – does anyone have any information on the Tallapoosa Youth Range / West Georgia Youth Range? It is an outdoor rifle and pistol range with up to 200 – 300 yard shooting berms from what I was told. Its in Haralson county, off of Hwy 78. Would really like to hear from someone that has shot there. I have not been there but would like to check it out.

Here is an interesting read about this range.

I didn't see it posted yet, but my family & I are members of Big Woods Goods. It is actually in Holly Springs, but it is just a few minutes from Canton on Hwy. 5. Great gun store, with a 25 yard gun range and a separate archery range. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable, and sometimes I'll drop by just to shoot the breeze for a minute.
